Hi all,

would you like to contribute to an open source project while also being remunerated over the summer months?
If yes, then you should apply to the Rails Girls Summer of Code program!
Successful applicants are paid a monthly stipend, from July-September, to work on Open Source projects of their choice.

Places are limited and applications are open till April the 14th (see details below)

please, consider applying and spreading the word ;)

Cheers,
Myriam on behalf of Rails Girls Galway

Dear Rails Girls Galway Team,

I’m writing on behalf of the Rails Girls Summer of Code (RGSoC) program. We’ve opened up applications little over a week ago; at the moment we are trying to get in touch with as many Rails Girls chapters as possible to have them spread the word about our applications, either via their social media channels or their mailing list.

RGSoC was conceived as a way of both encouraging women to work in the area of technology and a way of supporting open source software development. In this paid program, women work for three months over the summer on open source projects, are given technical support by mentors and coaches, and travel and speak at conferences around the world. Since its inception two years ago a total of 65 students have taken part - 90% of whom continue to work in tech related fields.

The deadline for applying is April 14th: http://railsgirlssummerofcode.org/students/application and I think this is a great opportunity for past workshop attendees, because we believe that RGSoC can be a logical next step if they’ve kept trying to learn after the workshop (self-taught or within a study group). We have some really great projects to contribute to this year, so I think this will be exciting for the selected teams.

Would it be possible for you to share this information among your contacts and past attendees of Rails Girls Galway? It would be great! Feel free to get in touch with me if you need any further information. You can find us on twitter (@RailsGirlsSoC) and Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Rails-Girls-Summer-of-Code/620914904656191)

Thanks in advance!

Laura and the Rails Girls Summer of Code team
