hi all,

I'm mostly using Notepad++ (on Windows) as a text-editor with nppColdFusion, and recently started using CFEclipse which is really cool but much heavier than Notepad++ and is missing some parsing for script-based CFCs.

the developer of the nppColdFusion plugin has dropped that project in favor of using SublimeText2 (http://www.sublimetext.com/) which apparently also has a CF plugin.

does anyone have experience with SublimeText as a text editor?

Yes, I use Sublime Text 2 (recent convert from CFEclipse). I LOVE IT. The ColdFusion plugin is actively under development and works like a champ.

thanks Sean,

I installed it after posting this and I must say that so far I'm impressed with it's speed.

I've been using Sublime Text 2 for a while as well, and I'm a big fan.
I came from Eclipse/CF Builder and had really grown tired of the
resources that Eclipse used. Sublime Text has always run quickly for
me, opening files that are criminally long with total ease, and as
Sean mentioned, the CF plugin is _very_ actively maintained.
Definitely worth the price of registration, IMO.

I have failed as much as I have succeeded. But I love my life. I love
my wife. And I wish you my kind of success.

Been using it for about 6 months.  Love it a lot.  It’s fast…I can open multiple

projects in different windows without slowing it down.  I like a simple, fast

non-crashing editor…. Sublime Text 2.

yea, I've been playing with it a bit today -- the more I tried it the more I like it.

I also like that it's available for different platforms and that on Windows it comes in a portable form.

"Hansel, he is so hot right now. Hansel"

I use Textmate a lot and the only thing that makes me go wow about Sublime is the micro map.

Having said that, I need and use Eclipse a lot. Having said that, I do a lot of java these days so need an IDE.

Anyway

yea, my problem with TextMate is that it's for Mac only and I work on Windows.

and for a Java IDE I prefer NetBeans.  seems to work smoother for me than Eclipse.

I like what you guys did with CFEclipse though, so I use Eclipse in that form, and when I play with building Railo from source etc.

CF Studio here...

Only kidding.  Mainly Notepad+, but have also tried out SublimeText 2 and will probably move to that for the CF support.  Also got CF Builder, but I don't know... never quite hits the spot somehow.  I guess I should invest more time in learning how to use it properly.

Give IntelliJ Idea a go, for CFML its good, but for Java its brilliant. In my experience it surpasses most, (Java) IDE's and texteditors.

Mark, not only the micromap is awesome about Sublime Text2, it can also load large files with ease, something you shouldn't even try with TextMate.  That may be solved in version 2, haven't checked that yet.

Another benefit is that it's not limited to OS X but also runs under Windows and Linux.

Yep, I agree, I use it but aside from those two (and if I am loading large files, I am usually doing tail -f on them) what have the romans done for us?

I just didn't get on with Sublime... I use it, I have it. But I know TextMate and extend it reguraly.

I do use Sublime Text when I have to look at code that is in stupid long files and has no order. So, for crappy code, Sublime it is. For neat code, CFEclipse or Textmate :)

I primarily use ActiveState's Komodo IDE (paid license @ work) or Komodo Edit (free @ home), with Komodo-CFML (a CFML language mode I've built for it).
