Hi folks,

I've been learning the ins and outs of Ubuntu server lately and am looking to install Railo4 with Resin in a similar fashion to how Mark Mandel has down with an earlier Railo release

When looking at the All OS folder extraction of Railo4 I see only Jar files, however when I look at the Railo3 folder extraction I see the bin directory etc...

Is it possible to get Railo4 working in the same manner? Essentially I'm stuck at Step 5 in Mark's outline since the extracted files/folders are different.

Any help on this is appreciated!

Thanks.

Nolan

Hi,

Why don't you just use Railo Installer?
It's simple and efficient

Not a bad idea...  Keep in mind that the article mentioned is more than 4 years old and MUCH has changed since then.

Hi,

I had been using Ubuntu server without the desktop GUI up until now.  Server by default has no GUI, but it's an easy install to get it working.  I'm going to install the GUI and then try the installer.  Will report back.

Thanks.

I've not used it myself, but I'm pretty certain that the installer *does not* require a GUI. Have you tried and found otherwise??

The Railo Linux Installer does NOT require a GUI. There is an autodetect
sequence that determines if you're running a GUI or not and will try to
run in GUI mode first, however if the sequence does NOT find a GUI, the
Linux installer will run in text/console mode just fine.

You can also force console/text mode with the --mode switch:

$ sudo ./railo-installer...run --mode text

There is also an "unattended" mode, if you would like to script the
install process to multiple machines (for large deployments):

https://github.com/getrailo/railo/wiki/Installation%3Ainstallerdocumentation%3Alinunattended

Full documentation is here:
https://github.com/getrailo/railo/wiki/Installation:InstallerDocumentation

Hope this helps!

I use Railo with Resin on Ubuntu. I love the arrangement. I prefer Resin over Tomcat. (I have Nginx in front of Resin and much prefer that over Apache too.)

I blogged about my setup instructions here: http://www.cfelements.com/2012/04/railo-on-resin-4-and-more-full-tutorial.html  But that is two years old, there are newer versions of resin and railo since then, but that is roughly the setup process I still use today.

Check it out and post back here if you have any issues.

Nolan,

RailoInstaller does NOT require GUI.
Actually, it's a good practice, for security reasons, do not use GUI on public/internet servers.
