Should we moderate the user requests? There are some coming in that I guess have nothing to do with CFML. And I must admit I have already plenty of others writing me about blue pills and others…

I would then turn on the moderation of users.

You all agree?

+1 or form a trusted committee to help moderate.

If that's what it takes, I agree.

Grumbling from an conceptual standpoint ("The spammers have won"), but totally agree in practicality.

Especially since you guys are always so on top of this group!

If we avoid spam...yes.
But, as I hope, Railo will get most attractive day by day ....moderation will become a hard job to your side.
I am not sure.
I prefer to delete spam or posts not on focus but keeping the discussions as fast as possible.

Yes - let's do it - despite what I suggested before - clearly it's a problem :-(

I believe membership should be based on approval, Railo may now be open source but that doesnt mean it needs to allow every spammer to join the club.

And even with membership moderation I would highly suggest that aggregation of threads here NOT be included on the homepage, there really isn't any need to.

For openbd the entire Steering committee moderates messages and new
users. It takes a load off of Alan Williamson. Gert, I'm sure you'd have
plenty of volunteers if you wanted help moderating the list to keep the
garbage out. ;)

It's a "marketing" technique. Someone who is NOT subscribed to the list
may decide to subscribe based on what they see being discussed on the site.

Well I won’t aggregate it anymore, since you called me yesterday to tell me that our site has been hacked… Anyway… Moderation now is turned on…

Thanks for the support…

Is there a way to just configure users ( source email addresses  ) as "trusted" to reduce the maintenance necessary?

For example, after someone posts their first legitimate entry, flag that user / email as trusted.

I'd hate for someone to have to manually approve each message.

Messages are NOT approved only users…

That’s why I am sure if someone lies when he requests the subscription, spam might get through anyway…But a lot less than now…

Google groups has a way to moderate new users. If they're new to the group, they have to go through moderation first. After a few posts are accepted / approved through moderation, then over time, they move from the new user and become a regular user.

Keep in mind, Railo Team just moved to the google group mailing list. They might not be aware of this feature. Then again, just this alone will add to their worklist unless they get some volunteers to donate somet time.

If Railo team DOES get some volunteers, I suggest making sure you have some volunteers throughout different world timezone.

Only reason why I know about this feature is because jQuery UI Google Group uses it. ;)

I don't think discouraging a newbie is the way to go. Could be a PHP guy looking to get some CFML questions answered.

Can someone that can jump in and erase the spam thread(s) please? I
keep seeing in and thinking it's some awesome new feature, but then
realizing it's just filthspam and foul language.
