hey everybody,

I've been looking for this for a while so I figured I'll post it here in case others are looking.

I know that Mac users have Textmate bundles for CF, but as a Windows user I've been looking for a while for a lightweight text editor for CF.

Ben Bluemel has created a plugin for Notepad++ which is now at a stage where it is very functional and quite useful.  the plugin can be downloaded from

Hi Jay,

Thanks for sharing. I've just installed it. I generally use
CFEclipse but it's great to be able to quickly open a file without
needing a full blown IDE.

Regards,
Andrew.

I believe there's a version of TextMate for Windows, called E, but I
don't know how compatible it is with the (Mac) TextMate bundles.

Redcar (redcareditor.com) is another one - it's open source and
written in JRuby. But it was still very alpha when I last tried it.

yes, e-TextEditor (http://www.e-texteditor.com/) supports Textmate bundles.  it's free (and apparently open source) for Linux but the Windows version costs $47.

Notepad++ is open source being updated on a regular basis.

also, Ben Bluemel is actively updating the CF plugin and in the current version you get autocomplete for cf tags with the available attributes and other nice features.

The Mac version costs money too :)

Disclaimer: I use ColdFusion Builder for all my CFML editing so I'm
already using a $299 editor!

oh.  for some reason I thought that Textmate came with Mac OS.

actually now that I think of it -- I originally found out about the Textmate bundle for CF on your blog.

+1

Very handy. I have been using Notepad++ for some years now. It is a very nice text/code editor in it's own right.  For those that are interested check out the plugin manager for some other nifty tools.

yea, the plugin manager is cool, but I think that the current download for the CF plugin is not supported by the plugin manager and needs to be manually installed.

it features cool autocomplete with the cf tags, attributes, and functions so it's totally worth going through the process of the manual install.

I mistakenly copied the sqlite dll into the plugins dir but once I read the instructions correctly it was quite easy :)

What's interesting about e is that, at least if I remember right, Rob Rohan, the cfeclipse Rob Rohan, was involved
http://robrohan.com/2008/11/29/cftextmate-30-beta-released/.

The plugin for cfml has templates for cf tags.

I tried it for a while, but the thing is, cfeclipse triple rocks. Mylyn, subversion, unit tests, denstar, etc..

Notepad++ is a good program. I use it for non-development stuff. In other words, I just replace windows` notepad.exe
with notepad++.
