Our suite of Australian models includes several detailed, dynamic Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) models of Australia, which have been used to analyse many economic policies, including changes in taxes, tariffs, environmental regulations and competition policy.

Our modelling relies on the GEMPACK software, developed at the unit, and used in over 400 other locations in 60 countries. We have taken our modelling techniques overseas, completing projects in South Africa, Brazil, Taiwan, Thailand, China and other countries.

We run several training courses in CGE modelling each year. These courses are aimed at those who need background in CGE modelling to work with results from existing CGE models, or who wish to use GEMPACK to build their own models.

MMRF
A dynamic CGE model of Australia's states and territories, has been used for a wide range of applications including analyses of greenhouse issues. The latest version of the model has been used in the analysis of the Potential Benefits of the National Reform Agenda.

TERM (The Enormous Regional Model)
A highly disaggregated model of 57 Australian sub-state regions, is a useful tool for examining the impacts of shocks that affect specific regions, for example drought.

USAGE
A 500 industry dynamic computable general equilibrium model of the US economy, is being developed in collaboration with the US International Trade Commission. A simpler single-country model called ORANI-G has been created as a pattern on which to base models of other countries.

We acknowledge the Ancestors, Elders and families of the Kulin Nation (Melbourne campuses), the Eora Nation (Sydney campus) and the Yugara/YUgarapul and Turrbal Nation (Brisbane campus) who are the traditional owners of University land. As we share our own knowledge practices within the University, may we pay respect to the deep knowledge embedded within the Aboriginal community and recognise their ownership of Country.

We acknowledge that the land on which we meet, learn, and share knowledge is a place of age-old ceremonies of celebration, initiation and renewal, and that the Traditional Owners' living culture and practices have a unique role in the life of this region.

The University of Victoria is set to advance the Canadian climate policy modelling ecosystem with the launch of the Open Insights project today, supported by a gift of $2.5 million from Clean Prosperity Foundation.

The first and only suite of open-source Canadian-specific energy models, data, and visualization tools is applicable for many different users and use-cases. It can be used to quickly evaluate proposed policy packages, and address specific questions, like the most cost-effective way for a province to reach a net zero electricity grid, inform infrastructure decisions, predict shifts between economic sectors, and study longer-term implications of new technologies.

The $2.5 million supports the hiring of post-doctoral research analysts, graduate students, and software developers, and public dissemination of the research via conferences, forums, courses and communications. Open Insights is a collaborative effort between the Sustainable Energy Systems Integration and Transitions Group at UVic, Energy Modelling Hub, Macrocosm Group and the Energy and Materials Research Group at Simon Fraser University.

The Maternal Child Health (MCH) sleep and settling model of care provides an evidenced informed approach to supporting parents and caregivers who have raised a sleep and settling concern. It supports the delivery of consistent and high-quality MCH services by MCH Service Providers for all Victorian children and families. To support the application of the sleep and settling model of care the following resources have been developed:

A suite of 14 parent factsheets have been developed to provide information and support on typical sleep patterns, how to prevent sleep concerns, how to respond when a sleep concern is identified and information on self-care for parents and caregivers. These are available from the Child health (0-6) pageExternal Link on the Better Health Channel.

Rachelle was teaching French at the University of Victoria when she first heard about our business model. She was intrigued by a hotel model that utilized fully furnished condos for accommodation, and after some investigating with her business partner they purchased the franchise for Victoria BC. 15 years ago they started with one apartment and $3000, which has now grown to nearly 65 condos and a staff of 10. In her years of running the company, Rachelle has enjoyed meeting new guests and clients from all over the world. She enjoys traveling, particularly cycling trips through Europe, and is very fond of French white wines. Her staff say she is too modest and should mention her academic achievements, including her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Cross Disciplinary from the University of Victoria, and her Masters in Social Semiotic Cognitive Psychology and Text Analysis from the University of Bourgogne.

After relocating back to Victoria from her time in the Interior, she heads our guest services department as our full time Reservations Manager. Courtney brings extensive experience working within the tourism and hospitality industry, as well as a background in Resort & Hotel Management studies. Courtney looks forward to getting to know our guests and help them with every step of the reservation process. In her spare time, Courtney enjoys snuggling up with her dogs and a Disney movie, spending time with friends and family, and going to the movies on weekends.

Executive Summary

This CAT technical reference manual details the formulations embedded in the Catchment Analysis Tool (CAT1D) farming system model. The CAT1D model comprises a suite of farming system models of varying complexity from a simple crop cover approach to complex phenological based pasture, crop and forest growth models which simulate soil/water/plant interactions on a daily timestep.

Core modules which are common to all growth models include the water balance, erosion, livestock, management and nutrient models. In all cases the model is based on published algorithms in addition to customised module developed in collaboration with partner research organisation.

Recognition of the many partner research organisations including Melbourne University, Charles Stuart University, CSIRO, NSW Agriculture, Queensland DNRE and NSW DLWC for their contribution in the conceptualisation, development and validation of specific components of the CAT1D is acknowledged.

Where possible discrete modules are referenced by the name of collaborators who aided in the development of that module. The model development team also gratefully acknowledges the many organisations that have contributed funding including the former Victorian Department of Primary Industries, the former Victorian Department of Sustainability and Environment, the Murray Darling Basin Commission, the CRC for Catchment Hydrology and the CRC for Dryland Salinity.

The CAT Technical Manual is available free of charge in PDF format. Enquiries should be made to: Dr. Craig Beverly craig....@depi.vic.gov.au. Page top For information about DJPR please contact:
