i also have 'Enable Custom Theme Currency Converter Enabled' (this is the only cause i've noticed because when i disable it, then the store prices become correct for me... but im worried it will be incorrect for others outside of UK)
This is probably due to the way currency is being treated in the liquid or code. You'll want to check how it's being handled from the section or snippet of origin. Also want to confirm if there's code manipulating that. Also check your theme settings for currency conversion configuration in case that might give any hints. I'm guessing you're using a purchased theme and it appears as though there might have been some customization or modification to it.
I don't think there's a step-by-step guide for this but you want to first find the origin of that element. You can right-click on it and inspect to open the dev tools with Chrome and look at the elements, keep looking up to try to determine the file it's located in which will be either a section or snippet file. You would like in that file and see how that specific part is being treated. There may be a liquid price reference or currency filter. After looking at that you would want to determine if there's some additional script that might be manipulating it further. It would require some exploring and troubleshooting from someone with some code knowledge.
i right clicked randomly and had a browse in inspect, i found nothing to do with snippet but some with section that didnt give me much reference. although im pretty clueless with this stuff. Would shopify support be able to help with this issue? ive had it for quite some time now. i really appreciate your time so far
I don't think Shopify would provide that support. They would probably offer to connect you with a Shopify Plus Partner for help.
Either way you go about it you'll probably need to troubleshoot it to figure out what's going on. You can create a duplicate of your theme and without publishing it, you can experiment a bit with that one or maybe just feel more free to poke around.
I have no idea how old your store is and how exactly it's set up, but some time ago each shop could only operate in it's native currency. During this time, currency conversion was performed on the fly, in customers' browsers.
Since you have markets configured you should ensure that there is no extra currency conversions going on, but visitors are directed to relevant market URLs -- say, there is a country selector in your theme...
1. My primary market i set was USA, but on the currency settings on store edit - my Default currency is GBP. Is there a chance this is at fault? im worried if i change anything itll mess things up lol
Idea.
I would like to see a feature of being able to automatically display a secondary currency on an invoice which is required in several countries.
When issuing an invoice in a currency that is not the local currency in a country like United Arab Emirates then we need to mention the equivalent amount in the local currency with the currency exchange rate of the day, ideally just below the foreign currency total amount.
We have until now used a template for that but when the currency exchange rate changes then we need to change the template every time.
Please consider adding this feature for us.
No. Just as you have shown in your screen shot (which I presume is from your custom theme), you would enter it once. Custom fields are normally shown just below the totals section, unless you place them elsewhere using a custom theme.
Must show equivalent amount on Invoice:
UK Transactions in foreign currencies and VAT - GOV.UK
Iceland Icelandic invoice rules - Avalara
Poland: Polish VAT Invoice Requirements - Avalara
United Arab Emirates: الهيئة الاتحادية للضرائب - 404
It is stored as the content of the custom field where you entered it. It will not affect any accounting information entered unless you write a custom theme that includes calculations with custom fields. You need to explain and illustrate your concern about VAT returns. Conversions to base currency are unrelated in the program to custom field content. So it is not clear what you are worried about.
Yes, the program has this built in. If you create a custom field of number type, its format responds to changes of your number format preference. And, as I said before, if you select a text-type custom field, you can enter anything you want into it.
I did not say that, @Leifur. I said that number-type custom fields respond to changes of your number format preference. Your posts have been a little hard to follow, because you seem to switch from discussing custom fields to custom themes quite frequently. They are not the same. My comment was addressing the behavior of custom fields. You now seem to be focusing on behavior of calculation results, which can only be accomplished with custom themes. Performance of custom themes is the responsibility of the user. I told you that in post #4.
Thank you for your replies Tut.
Yes, I agree that my posts can be hard to follow, I do not know how you can import a part of a message and reply only to that one in a single reply, once I learn that then I believe it will be easier to follow my replies etc. My apologies.
Custom fields:
I understand now that your solution of using a custom field for this purpose is just to have a text box that I can put anything into and it will be reflected on the invoice.
This is clear, but not an acceptable solution.
I simply feel uncomfortable using a manual field or calculation when issuing my invoices. I want to set the exchange rate of the day into the system and then work on my invoices etc without having to manually enter the exchange rate of the day onto each and every invoice I issue etc. and display the AED equivalent sum amount below the USD final sum amount, with the exchange rate as well.
I think the best solution would be for manager to calculate these amounts, based on the exchange rates already in manager. Having a custom field that the user has to enter for each invoice, which is not linked to the accepted exchange rate directly is far more error prone and takes more manual work.
@alexbadiu
Stunning report. The visuals, the analysis and the color theme everything top class. How did you get such a bright green color?
I was also preparing the report using the same theme as yours.
I really liked the simple navigation of simple chevrons I used in my last eDNA challenge submission, and was sorely tempted to use it again (as I think it looks and works great), but attempted to try something new.
@Neba
For me, this has been your best report so far. I love the way you distinguished different currencies with different colors. The navigation, tooltips and color theme everything fits perfectly well in the report let alone the analytical side.
Really well done
@BrianJ,
Thank you for your kind words. It means a lot.
It was indeed a complex dataset and requirement.
I had a headache at some point trying to figure out the calculations.
Thanks for the recommendations , I will remember to include clear filters on my future reports.
Anyways, I did still take a different approach to this challenge as many others. Almost the entire report is dynamic. The main goal was to try to give the user the ability to determine what they wanted to see. A user can chose to see the any of the measures and how they are doing compared to the historicals in terms of MTD Current Month vs. Previous Month, MTD Current Month vs. Previous Year, or YTD Current Year vs. Previous Year. The currency selector is located just below the filters on each page with the current exchange rates used for that period listed at the bottom right of the page.
The most dynamic pages in the report though are definitely the last two (Top Performers & Adhoc Analysis). This one not only has all the features of the previous pages, but the user can see which dimension they want to see the data in and by which measure.
@bradsmith Amazing report I must say. Especially love the historical analysis that gives the user to see what has been happening in the past with unique visualizations. You have used many custom visuals that fit perfectly here. Did you use Zebra BI 4.4?
@datazoe Wow again. You included almost every detail in the report but the main highlight for me is the summaries (especially the one with Whisker Boxes) to detect outliers and the summary analysis is just superb.
Am I sensing a winner here?
My one constructive suggestion is that with the extent and depth of analysis present in this report, a dynamic summary of the key findings/takeaways/recommendations might be helpful in guiding the user through this.
(First Screen)
Sales(grey line) and Profit(orange line) bar chart. I just wanted to see how are they related each other in daily basis as it is my first time business model with more sales leads to more negative profits.
There are three currency icons to switch.
*After I got professional advise from @alexbadiu I have modified chart title colour and main title alignment. Only quick small changes but this looks much nicer than before. Thanks to Alex.
(Table & chart icon)
Open table view by clicking the table icon and bar chart icon is for the slicer of this table.
Icon colour changes once open the charts and click the coloured icon to close the charts.
By doing this consumer does not need to move cursor far away every time they close.
@datazoe
Thank you for lovely feedback. As you are one of my favourite participants, I feel so happy today!
You brought so much fun to the forum and I always like it!
P.S. Your website looks always fantastic
Sorry to hear and I hope you get better soon. It is a bit of lost for us without you participating the challenges so maybe you will submit later once you get better. There is no time limit for you
P.S. Congrats for your video for charticulator. I will support your activity!
Stores running on Shopify can display product prices in different currencies making your customers' experience smoother and more seamless, providing them with the ability to pay for their orders in their local currency.
