EDIT: Issue resolved with newest firmware and factory reset. Check the bottom of control panel software for the news banner if your panel's display or control panel behavior is acting up. Leads to instructions regarding a factory reset, which resolves said bugs.
The ORION conventional control panel range offers a creatively designed and visually pleasing solution for smaller cost-conscious projects demanding simplicity of operation. Versions available include 2, 4 and 8 zone panels and two styles of repeater. The outstanding programmable features included in this panel range contradict the facilities commonly available
in this type of panel and include: programmable time delay by zone, Day/Night mode, selectable non-latching zones and coincidence detection. Operation is extremely intuitive, offering simple control and one-button disablement facilities, as well as the one man test mode which provides simple and efficient testing of the system.
Advanced configuration solutions include the following: a dedicated RS232 communication interface allowing connection of up to 4 remote repeater panels, addressable loop interface modules and multiplexed zonal output relays; giving one of the most highly advanced levels of system integration and compatibility existing on the market at this level.
More likely the Dragon interface was influenced by the Tesla car interface. The Tesla Model S has a 17 inch touch screen that contains almost all of the cars controls. It is designed to be used while driving, with minor accelerations, compared to space launch. But this is much more concern than the common touch interface of a phone or tablet.
"You'll have a screen with a representation of the system you're controlling with valves and power switches ... You can highlight the item you want to command, press a button; a little window pops up with a list of commands, you select the command you want, and send it off to the vehicle."
As far as I know, Orion's control panel displays aren't touchscreens, they are similar to the control panel displays on airplanes with buttons along the edges that can be pressed to select options on the screen. However, there will be touchscreen tablets onboard with checklists and for other crew use, much like are used on the Dragon. NASA's promo materials have proudly said that the gloves on the Orion's orange IVA suits are touch-screen compatible.
