In a notification issued by Transport Secretary Adil Khan, additional time is given to vehicle owners who could not ply their vehicles due to lockdown and were unable to renew their fitness certificates within the stipulated time.
It says that as against the Rs 50 levied per day as a late fee for failing to obtain a fitness certificate, an owner of a three-wheeler transport vehicle will now pay Rs 10 per day, Rs 15 for a commercial tractor, Rs 20 for four-wheelers and Rs 25 a day for all heavy commercial, transport and other vehicles as late fees.
NAGAON: As per directive of State government, district transport officer, Nagaon also appealed to thousands owners of private as well as commercial vehicles of the district to get the fitness certificates at a minimum subsidy penalty of Rs 10 to Rs 25 instead of the old penalty rate of Rs 50 on a daily basis upto October 15 in the current year.
While speaking to this correspondent, DTO, Nagaon Sunit Kr Bora said the benefits of subsidized penalty rate of late fine especially in fitness of vehicle will cover upto October 15 and to get the benefits under that subsidized scheme, the private as well as commercial vehicles whose date of renewal of fitness have already passed and are yet to apply for it, can go for online application till August 15 only.
If the owners of such vehicle will fail to apply within the stipulated time and deposit the dues and other penalty expenses within October 15, they will apparently lose their vehicles in all aspects as their respective vehicles will be seized at their doorsteps itself by the enforcement teams and thereafter will be scrapped by the department concerned, he asserted further. He said the online application for renewal of fitness of those expired vehicles in the district have been started from July 15 here and urged all the owners to go for online application to renew the fitness of their respective vehicles on or before October 15 in the current year.
GUWAHATI: The State Transport Department has warned the vehicle owners that if they ply their vehicles without their up-to-date fitness certificates after October 15, 2023, the department would take such vehicles unfit, seize them, and send them for scrapping.

Guwahati: The Assam government on Wednesday announced a one-time settlement scheme for the renewal of fitness certificates at a reduced late fine fee for commercial vehicles, which were affected by the pandemic.

The draft also states that in case of delay in renewing RC, an additional fee of Rs 300 to Rs 500 penalty per month may have to be paid, while a delay in renewal of fitness certificate would attract daily fine of Rs 50.
Point to note: The roadworthiness certificate or the vehicle fitness certificate for new private vehicles is valid for 15 years and then to be re-registered or renewed every five years thereafter. For commercial vehicles, the vehicle fitness certificate is valid for two years for the new vehicle and then to be renewed every year thereafter.
All commercial motor vehicles need to have a valid vehicle fitness certificate together with the registration certificate. As per the rules of The Motor Vehicles Act,1989, registration of the vehicle is considered valid only if the motor vehicle has a proper and effective vehicle fitness certificate.
