Under Two Months Until Race Day! I'm excited.

I'm attaching Three Documents. Please review all of them and make sure they are correct/okay, as far as you know.

1.
List of Runners & Legs. Let me know if you don't like your position, and we'll see what we can do.

2. Ragnar Race Times Del Sol 2013.xlsx The XLS Spreadsheet showing the estimated times of each leg based on your Estimated Pace (Jay P, Since you aren't in the Ragnar system yet, I used the estimate John had in the spreadsheet from September 2012). This is based on a 5:00 AM start time (which we requested). Ragnar hasn't officially given us this start time, but I'm hoping we get it.

3.
The list of team members & contact information. I have also assigned people to team positions (Note: I trimmed down the task list. No more "Training" role -- at this point, be responsible for yourself.  Just let me know if you're having problems.) I assigned people to roles if they didn't have one (new assignments are in bold). Please let me know if you don't like your assignment. We could also use another Art, Design, and Decoration Person.

Van 1: I will bring an ice chest and I will pick up 3 cases of water. There is a Safeway and a CVS Pharmacy in Wickenburg, on the main road about 1.5 miles from the start, where we should be able to get ice and any other supplies..

With a 5 AM start, if we are on schedule, then Van 1's schedule should be about

   5:00 AM - 11:00 AM running
 11:00 AM -  6:30 PM resting
   6:30 PM - 12:15 AM (Sat) running
 12:15 AM -  4:00 AM resting
   4:00 AM -  9:00 AM running
   9:00 AM -  2:00 PM resting

Friday
Breakfast - We would be in the middle of our running. We could eat before we start, but then for some that may be too soon before their run. Do people want to bring their own breakfast? That way you can eat when you want? According to Ragnar, at the start there will be breakfast & lunch food, coffee, juices, and sport drinks for sale. So we could eat there.

Lunch and Dinner - Exchange 6 is in the middle of nowhere, and last year they didn't have any food at the exchange. Ragnar hasn't yet listed what will be at Exchange 12, but it is off the main road in Surprise and there appears to be sevearl fast food and other places to eat within a few miles of the exchange.

Saturday

Breakfast - We would be in the middle of our running, so I assume everyone will eat whatever snacks/food they bring. We will be completing our legs at Exchange 18 and then resting at Exchagne 24, and Ragnar has not yet listed what will be at Exchange 24. But according to Ragnar, at Exchange 18 will be pasta dinner, baked goods, and snacks for sale (Fundraiser benefiting Susan G. Komen 3 Day for a Cure)

Lunch - This will be after Van 1 has completed their third leg. Van 1 completes their third leg at Exchange 30 and Ragnar has not yet listed what will be at Exchange 30. Are we planning on going to the finish line and hanging out there until Van 2 arrives? I am not familiar with the finish line area, but it appears there are sevearl places to eat.

HOTEL

Carl, for Thursday night, in Wickenburg, Whose names are the rooms reserved under? Do you have the confirmation number(s)? I want to make sure we don't have any problems checking into the hotel.
 
 
Also have we made plans for the team dinner Thursday night? I got an e-mail from Ragnar saying they are doing a pasta dinner Thrusday night. I'm not sure if we want to do that or something in the Phoenix area.

Regarding Van #1: 
The hotel reservations are in my name, but I will call them back and set up the individuals for each room. I have 4 rooms reserved at Quality Inn Wickenburg, but maybe we only need 3 rooms. Please send me who is planning on sharing rooms for van #1. After I get the list, I will send you the reservation confirmations.
 
Also, who in Van #1 is planning on staying over on Saturday night. I have not made Saturday reservations yet.

Thank you, James, for thinking through the logistics.  I want to give everyone a heads up that we DO NOT have a confirmed start time yet.

I'm hoping it comes in today (They "extended" start time signup to 1/10. It is now several working days past 1/10).  I keep expecting it to come any day, so I haven't spammed y'all with a message this week.

For Van 2 people, we have the opposite schedule. So, we need to think through the same things: on-the-go water, food, and such.

Regarding Van # 1

Thursday night - I'm not that familiar with Wickenburg or areas around Phoenix.  If someone knows the area I'm open to suggestions for meeting.  Ragnar hasn't sponsored a Thursday dinner for Wasatch Back or Las Vegas so I don't know what they have planned.

Motel - Kris and I will share a room Thursday night but not Saturday.  We both have to be back home by Sunday evening so we will start back after the team crosses the finish line.  If there is someone else who needs or wants to share our room we are flexible.

Breakfast - I'm the last runner in Van 1 so early breakfast would be okay but I'm sure the first couple of runners would prefer to wait so I can do whatever the majority wants.  Maybe we need to decide that when we have firm start time and after we meet Thursday night.  For Wasatch Back we usually just "junk food" breakfast and eat somewhere between 6 & 12 depending on what's available.

Finish line - Crossing as a team is part of the fun (if the legs are still moving).  Again at Wasatch we (van 1) usually eat somewhere between exchange 30 and 36, then hang out at the finish area.  That's where you check in safety flags and Ragnar has usually recruited vendors, etc. so there should be something to do.  If nothing else roll out the sleeping bags and snooze.

Can you put me in the room Thursday night with the Carliles in Wickenberg?  Ragnar is sponsoring a pasta dinner in Wickenberg Thursday night where I'm sure they'll do packet and shirt pick up.  Do we want to do that or we had talked about dinner in Pheonix somewhere.

Van 1- can u please put Jay Aranda and I in a hotel room together...thanks! I guess we need to decide also where we are going to meet on Thursday so we know where to park cars and take van to wickenburg. I personally don't mind just eating what we bring that morning. 5am is really early. I was thinking I'll bring bagels and cream cheese for everyone for those carbs. I also agree that once we are done running we can go eat or whatever then go to the finish to hang out until the rest of our team shows up so we all run to the finish line together.

Actually if Ragnar does it like they do Wasatch and Las Vegas, packet pickup will be at start for van 1 and exchange 6 for van 2.  They do that so that everyone goes through some safety orientation and also to insure that each van has two orange flags for crossing roads.  They have never done a Thursday pickup for any Ragnar that I have done but I haven't reviewed their "bible" for this one.

James, Doug and Kristopher will stay in one room.
Kristine and Jay will be in one room.
Amy will have her own room.

Here are how the reservations stack up. I had some difficulty because they did not provide a second bed even though it was requested. There is 1 King Bed in each room. That is why I had to keep the extra room for James. Please let me know if this is going to be workable.

I thought Van 2 was staying in Phoenix. If we stay in Wickenburg, I need space in a room 2.  I'm good with that, I just didn't know it was the plan.

This hotel is just a few minutes from the airport and there is a courtesy van that takes us to and from the airport.
 
There are 3 room reservations each with two queen beds.

Let me know if there are any changes that need to be made. We have the ability to make changes, but let's not wait very long.
 
Now for Saturday night after the race, I know that Stephanie needs a room. Does anyone else on the team need a room? I have made reservations for Saturday night at the same hotel listed above, but I have only reserved two rooms so far. Anyone else need a room or want to share a room?

For the post-race logistics, I'm sure my parents' van can be used to shuttle everyone from the post-race dinner to the hotel, if necessary (since Keith NEEDS to be at the airport by 5).

And, we still don't have a start time.

If the post-race dinner is going to be over early enough to get Keith to the airport by 5, I can drive home on Saturday.  I was thinking it was going to be later for some reason.

We don't have a start time yet, so I can't totally do the math on when we'll finish.  If we keep to our planned paces, we should need 33 hours and 20 minutes or 1 day, 9 hours, and 20 minutes. So, if we get a 5 am start time, we'll finish at about 2:30. 

And, from reading the other exchanges (Keith has a hotel room for Saturday night), I think that 5 pm is more the van return goal.  Keith, am I right?

So, you might be able to drive home that night.  But, it all depends on when we start and how fast we go.  And, if we get a 7am start time, then we'll be running much, much later in the day.
