We have a 5 AM Start Time!!!  We will almost definitely go through Exchange 34 while our volunteers are working (very exciting!), but they should still be able to see us at the finish line (when you're arranging for your own parents to be volunteers, these types of inclusion activities are important).

So, now that we have an actual start time. I'm going to run down my checklist. Please let me know if I've missed anything.

I'm attaching the Excel Spreadsheet that shows our expected progress through the race. I updated it today w/ the paces you currently have recorded with the Ragnar website. Let me know if I need to update it again.  Do note. Van 1 cannot go faster than their expected paces if we want to avoid being held at the first exchange. It is never a problem after that, and we could all live if we had to stand there for a few minutes ... but, we're close on the timing for the first major exchange.

I'm also sending out the corrected Roster one more time. I rearranged everyone into running order, so let me know if I messed something up.

Running through the different team tasks:
1. Captain. We have a team of 12. We have volunteers. I have us all in the system with a start time. I will bring to the race: (1) a color copy of the race bible for each van, (2) A hard copy of the roster for each van, (3) A hard copy of the Excel spreadsheet for each van, and (4) Phone number lists to tape onto the back of each individuals' race number.

2. Transportation: Doug & Keith have reserved vans.

3. Art, Design, and Decoration: I think we seem to be planning low key decorations, but Kristine and Jay, do you have any plans for van decoration? Do you need any input from the rest of us?

4. Communications: Stephanie & Kristopher -- during the race, you'll need to help one van keep in touch with the other. In addition, we could post to some common facebook or twitter account, I suppose. Does anyone have any different/new ideas along these lines?

5. Food, Lodging, & Entertainment: Carl has handled the hotels (yippee). He might also have started in on the food plans. Katie & James, can you help track down a list of restaurants conveniently located near the major exchanges?  Also, for the post-race get together, we can do takeout @ my parents'. Then our volunteers can also attend. And, we can all shuffle through showers too. Also, while I think van 1 has talked about coolers, I'm not sure van 2 has made plans along those lines.

6. Team Photographers & Cheerleaders: Keith & Amy. Any questions?  I think most of us will take at least some photos during the event, but it would be nice if someone could coordinate sharing photos.

7. Statistician & Global Expert: I will be bringing a tablet or computer that can update the spreadsheet as we finish each leg. This will help us predict our progress. I can either share the updates with everyone else via sms or telephone call, or perhaps someone in the other van could also be keeping track of our progress? I believe Jay will be backing me up during my running & sleeping times.

What have I missed?

Katie and James:
I have not worked on the restaurants for our Ragnar. The important restaurant will be on Thursday night for the initial team get together and of course at the end of the race for our team celebration. Please do the research on this. As far as the restaurants along the route are concerned, I believe that there will be suggestions on the Ragnar Del Sol website. That way you do not have to do too much research. Food and fun are vital to our success, so we are counting on the two of you.

I was thinking we could just wear what we want. I don't know about the rest of you but I like to be comfortable when I'm running. I wore a kilt last year and that wasn't the greatest especially when it was cold.

As far as the vans go I was thinking of getting the window paint and of course we write our team name on the van and maybe our names with where each person is from....showing we are coast 2 coast. And we also need a roadkill counter.  Maybe we can decorate the vans at our prerace dinner....any other suggestions? I'm sure ideas will flow when we start drawing on the vans and we can go from there.

Hi all,

I will research restaurants along the course and start posting suggestions.

Van #2 - I am driving up from Tucson, so I can bring a cooler (maybe 2 if we think we want another one) and anything else that people would like but don't want to fly with. I'll get some waters to put in there.

I agree with the "Wear what you want to be comfortable" plan.

Thank you, Katie, for bringing a cooler.  I think one should be enough. We are pretty much in the metro area for the entire race, so grocery stores will be available if we actually need more stuff.

And, let me know if you struggle at all picking restaurants. One of my cousins & his girlfriend are fine dining chefs in the area.  My parents eat both fine food & much more modest foods. I can get recommendations from all of them if necessary.
