Next up, we have Resmi Suresh (IIT Guwahati - first speaker from India!) on Tuesday, July 21, 3 PM GMT.
Link: https://cmu.zoom.us/s/657830109
Topic: A Systems Approach on Rechargeable Batteries
Abstract: Rechargeable batteries play a major role in our day-to-day lives as it is used in a variety of applications ranging from our mobile phones to large-scale medical devices and electric vehicles. However, they are subject to both performance and capacity degradations, which impact their lifetime irreversibly. Although it is impossible to reclaim the lost capacity, periodic diagnosis, subsequent management, and control can prolong their lifetime. This presentation will focus on the investigation and development of techniques for battery performance enhancement. A framework for an online battery management system to improve the performance and life of a battery is considered in this work, focusing mainly on its three major components: model, controller, and diagnostic tool. The major focus of the talk would be rapid impedance measurement using chirp analysis that has applications in the online diagnosis of electrochemical systems.
Format: The webinar has run on Zoom, with the primary mode for questions being the Q&A or Chat window on Zoom.  Some in-depth discussions are carried on in the accompanying Slack workspace.  The talk is meant to be GRC-style so there are no recordings of the talks.
Calendar: Download the iCal for the Webinar Series.  Here is the link to the calendar series on Google Calendar. The webinar usually runs on Tuesdays at 3 PM GMT.  Adding this to your calendar is the best way to stay up-to-date on the webinar series.  It will contain information about webinars, pre-reads, etc.

Highlights from this week's talk:
Speaker: Abhishek Malhotra (ETH)

A big thanks @absmalhotra for unearthing a wealth of knowledge & food for thought on the #battery story!
- Is hazard rate the hot new metric that makes or breaks credibility?
- How should we innovate to stay on the critical knowledge path?

Very interesting presentation by @absmalhotra @ETH_en on Li-ion #battery patent trends over the past 50 years - especially the impact of Chinese patents in recent times.
