Hello everyone, Jesudas is said to have remarked that God was partial to Rafi. Of course he meant in a nice way.

Well friends, here is one agyaan guru giving some info.

Tujhe kya hua sunaoon main dilruba sung by Rafi is composed by Madanmohan. It is supposed to be a `lift' of a song sung by Talat Mehmood and tuned by Sajjad Hussain. Sajjad Hussain  reportedly was very outspoken and hence scored music for very few films, The song sung by Talat is Yeh hawa yeh raat yeh chandni from Sangdil.  The story goes that when Madanmohan was recording a song in a neighbouring studio when Sajjad Hussain barged in and accused him publicly of lifting his tune and adapting it to Tujhe kya sunaoon main dilruba. if you listen, both songs sound very similar. Rafi's Tujhe kya sunaoon was tuned by Madanmohan after Sajjad Hussain's Yeh hawa of Talat  became a rage.

Sajjad Hussain was an accomplished mandolin player, perhaps the only one those days to play Indian classical music on this foreign instrument as it has many limitations. Of course these days we have Mandolin Srinivas and many more.

With humble regards

Hi Amitbhai,

Great to hear from you after some time.

Tujhe kya sunaao is unmistakably Rafi saab from movie Aakhri Daav, probably there
are more songs sounding similar sung by Talat, which explains the doubt.

I am not sure of the second question. But hey I assure you that within next few hours
you will get an answer from all the gyaan gurus.

Happy Dussera and season's greetings

Ah, what a lovely statement! I never heard that before.

The statement becomes more significant when we consider that it came from the Badshah of Silken Voice, Talat Mehmood. It is said that Talat Mehmood, a favourite of Anil Biswas, was a very successful singer. Once he decided to go on pilgrimage (Haj). When he returned, he found that Mohd Rafi had become a more successful singer. Talat declined after that, never to recover.

I have two questions for you, dear friends! The credit for the song, Tujhe Kya Sunaoo Mein Dilruba is given to Talat mehmood over Akashvani. However, the voice appears to be that of someone else. Are my ears playing tricks on me, or is a case of a misplaced credit?

Another question. I remember only one duet by Mohd Rafi and Talat Mehmood - Gham Ki Andheri Raat Mein. Did they sing any other song together?

Best wishes on Dashahara!

  Uttaraji,
It is nice of Jesudas to have remarked thus. In fact, SPB is a great fan of Rafi and he never misses a chance to talk of the great person in any of his programmes on T.V.
Regards.
