I am rarely on the track alone. Most often there are other walkers there. Sometimes there are people jogging and even running. There are several walkers that I have noticed more than once. One is a man who is older than me by perhaps 15 or 20 years. The other is a woman who also appears to be maybe 10 or 15 years my senior. Both of them literally walk circles around me. They pass me on the left side the way that Captain America passed Falcon (in the movie Captain America: The Winter Soldier) on their separate morning runs around the Capitol Reflecting Pool on the Washington D.C. Mall.
It does not serve me to try to do what someone else is doing. We may be engaging in the same activity but we are all coming to it with a variety of capacities. This week as I have walked, I thought about how important it has been for me to embrace walking at my pace.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation requires specific education for any drivers who commit a Failure to Yield violation. Our Wisconsin Failure to Yield Right of Way course has been approved by the WI DOT with that requirement in mind. The course is online, available anytime, on any connected device so you can complete it at your own pace. The citation was a hassle, your traffic school course doesn't have to be.
Have you received a notice from the WI DMV that you need to complete a right of way or failure to yield course? Our Wisconsin Department of Transportation approved 2 hour online Right of Way course will satisfy this requirement. The course is available 24/7 so you can complete your requirement at your convenience and at your own pace. The course features numerous videos to keep you engaged and informed on all the rules of the road when it comes to Right-of-Way.
If you complete your challenge early in the month, your medal will be shipped on the 25th. If you do complete early, why not consider increasing your distance and pushing towards an even greater goal instead! You can log in here to do so!
For example, if you entered a standard 50 mile challenge and completed this by covering 56 miles we would send your medal with 50 miles on it. However, if you had opted for distance personalization we would engrave the medal with your actual total distance!
The monthly compression shirts are sent out at the end of the challenge. All you need to do is let us know if you were able to complete your challenge by marking your challenge as complete, or closing it.
The reality is for your first marathon it is going to be tough. I think you will be surprised how much different it will feel next time having done it once before. The dynamics have changed in your favour.
A great blog. I always enjoy reading your writing. My recent experience of running a half was that I thought I would do 2:10 and if I was feeling good I might manage at best 2:06. The first 10km were basically uphill and me and my running partner (I need someone with me for longer distances) ran this quicker than we anticipated. We were both feeling good and in the end kept the pace going and finished in 2:03 which felt amazing. I know people say listen to your body and for me that was great advice. I never felt as if I was pushing too hard. The last few miles were into a strong wind but we kept going. There was nothing left in the tank at the end but that was fine.
I really enjoyed reading this, Paul. All the points you make fit my own experience and the only thing I would say is target pace is not so much a round number as many choose but something that must be within realistic reach based on a recent or fairly recent race. Liking the pictures too! Thank you, Tom.
Local pharmacies across Pennsylvania are now offering free delivery for all older adults, even if they are not a PACE beneficiary.

God, thank You for the path You have prepared for me and the Savior who has gone before me. I choose not to compare and instead to focus on pursuing You. I will keep my peace. I will honor my pace. I will trust that what You have ahead for me is best. Amen.
You will use the Pace Portal to access information about Pace activities, events, and news. In addition, the Portal will give you access to your courses, accounts, financial aid, registration, grades, and much more! It is available to you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
For this step, you will need to know that your initial password for new accounts will be your first and last name initials (lower-case), followed by a hyphen, and then your date of birth in this format: MM-DD-YYYY (add hyphens between month, day, and year). Example: Your name is John Doe, and you were born on January 3, 1998, your initial password would be jd-01-03-1998. When you log-in for the first time, you will be prompted to reset your password.
Users can only change their passwords once in a 24-hour period. If you forget your password in the future, you can reset it via the Apps/Downloads/Account Management website by providing your Username and a non-Pace email address on file, and then answering your existing security questions.
Pace University students are billed on a semester basis, and students are responsible for all assessed charges by the stated due dates. You may access your account information and make secure payments via the Payment Portal. Other payment methods and financing options are also available.
Full-time students in the State of New York must have health insurance, and a health insurance fee may be included on your billing statement. If you already have insurance, you can waive out of this fee from your Pace Portal account.
Sometimes training for a race can feel like that. You have some days where you feel spot on where other days it seems like a hurricane just comes through and turns your life upside down. Believe me, I know that feeling all too well. About two years ago I suffered an injury that left me feeling like wow the thing that I love so much I may never do again. I struggled with that so much because during the time that I was suffering from that injury I was also going through so many transitions in my life. It left me feeling like my life was a mess. It seemed to feel as if I had no control over my life; that sounds all too familiar to what many of you are experiencing right now. But what I later realized is what seemed like a mess was my growth. It was growth that was happening, and my success was brewing.

While running, Strava gives me 1/2 mile reports. That's sort of okay, except that in that time, I may have run up one hill and down another. Reporting at least 1/4 mile intervals would be more useful. I'd also love to get real time information on cadence and not have to see it after-the-fact on the results. I'm wearing headphones... if the app told me my cadence I could adjust. (again, something more frequent than 1/2 mile intervals because so much changes in a half mile)
I have a particular route that I run that is 1/4 mile up, 1/4 mile down. I run that loop twice for every mile. So when I see 1 mile statistics, I have no idea what my pacing looks like running up hill, I only know what it looks like for two loops up and down.
So live pacing, or at least more fine grained reporting. Please and thank you.
It strikes me as incredibly odd that a subscription would remove such a vital feature. There must be a way to allow the user to toggle between the two. I just received a free 30 day subscription, and I can't wait for it to end so I can return to having average pace in the free version. Until the average/current pace ability is sorted out, this free subscription, unfortunately, is serving as anti-advertising...
You are doing many other things while also trying to write and all of these things will impact your focus and energy. Adjust your pace accordingly. That will allow you to write through even the tough times, so that when your energy begins to flow again, you will be poised, warmed up, and ready.
