I have tried to use both an XBOX and a PS4 controller with LabVIEW on Windows 10 but have not been able to make it work.
I use LabVIEW 2020 SP1 f1 64bit on Windows 10 and have downloaded the MakerHub interface XBOX One and PS4 Controller packages with the VI Package Manager.
The controllers have been connected wirelessly or with USB cable and Windows can connect to the controllers and are visible under Bluetooth and other devices.
My problem is that no controller is found when running an example and I am not sure what the problem is. Are these packages too old and they have stopped working? Is there something missing so I have to install something more? Or should I use some other solution?
why to use XBOX or PS4 if SNES is the only controller that you need? Jkidding
There are several ways to get data from USB or Wireless controllers. I'll point the one i use when i need a fast data acquisition.(by fast i mean testing and prototyping)
First, if you use hidHide for whatever reason, make them visible.
Then, on LabVIEW, under the connectivity pallete, there is the Joystick pallete.
all you have to do is, initialize the controller (you may check ID on the windows controller configuration 0 is the first on list, 1 is the second, so on...)
inside a loop you use the acquire input data.vi to get status from direction, axis and buttons.
outside the loop you use clos input device.vi to release serial communication so that you may play your games.
I am do a quick and dirty proof of concept where I am controlling the tilt of a mirror directing a laser beam with stepper motors and I think it would be nice to use a game controller to remotely control the mirror position.
i always prefer usb, but using ds4windows helped connecting through bluetooth. xbox controller i dont know because i dont have one. i have also used a POKKEN CONTROLLER for nintendo switch, that worked ok wirelessly
My problem with the wireless controller might be that the number of joysticks is limited to 8. All extra controllers I connect don't show up (USB or Bluetooth).
Instead I found this solution which works for both USB and Bluetooth controllers -Joysticks-Access-violation/m-p/3597290#M1007969
I'm using an Xbox Series controller connected via Bluetooth to macOS with the Shadow Beta client. I noticed that when I plug headphones into the audio jack on the controller, sound doesn't seem to pass through to the headphones. I'm not totally sure if this is supposed to work - has anyone else seen this work?
Be ready for all sorts of different gaming journeys by using the Xbox Accessories app to remap your controller buttons to meet any layout need. Create controller profiles to make swapping between distinct game controls seamless.
thanks for that I been looking everywhere for the current xbox mappings for FS, I am not a gamer and dont use a xbox, but one suggestion I would have is change z scale to 20.00 that way 'pushing' the controllers will zoom in , and of course feathering slow down or speed up the moverments
This is great, thanks for sharing. FS really should come with a selection of defaults for popular controllers, I'd say the XBOX controller is probably the most common though so maybe in time they will include this.
thats great. I tried a xbox controller and got the settings about right but I just got to used to using the 3d mouse. I'm sure gamers will love the controller for a flycam I talked to another video maker and he uses a flight controller so you also use your feet for some of the flycam movement
Are you using an official Xbox controller? Or a generic version (recognized by your PC as "Generic/Gamepad"). I find this makes a huge difference. The Generic gamepads tend to be "wired" slightly different sometimes. The mappings I posted are specifically for official Xbox controllers.
Is there a way to use a Xbox 360 controller with KSP? If not what other joystick or controller can i use with the game. It is really hard to control the ships with my keyboard tbh. And to a guy who hasn't even landed on the Mun yet, it would be extremely useful.
I use the Xbox controller, you can map the axis in the control menu. I use left thumbstick for pitch and yaw, right stick for roll and RCS forward and backwards, and the D-pad for RCS translation control. The trigger's don't map correctly, so you can't bind them to roll the ship.
If you're referring to how to hook up the 360 controller, it connects to your normal USB port on any laptop or computer (if its been constructed since about 2000 for 2.0). It should auto-install the driver since its a microsoft device if you are on a windows box.
It should be noted, however, that this only works for cabled controllers. If you have a wireless controller with a play-and-charge kit, this won't work. The play-and-charge kit only carries the power for the controller; the actual transmission of data is still done wirelessly.
If you can use an Xbox controller then theoreticaly you would be able to get DS4Windows and use a ps4 controller. Then all you need is a HDMI cable, HD tv and you've got the console experience minus the console

When XBOX Controller is going to be supported by Air Link not only directly linked to PC, but through headset (like VD)?
I had a hope that Air Link made Virtual Desktop obsolete (No offense VD Developers, amazing job!) for games, but I've got big WTF seeing Touch Controllers lying on the floor in the launcher, while my xbox controller were useless. I understand, that Air Link is in Experimental phase, but for me it seems more like useless POH. I guess that a lot of Oculus Quest user bought it, because they didn't want to be chained to their PC, sitting at cosy coach downstairs, and they looked forward for Air-Link. Streaming controller input (You are already doing it!) and handling it in Oculus App (You are already doing it!) can't be so hard to implement!
Have you controller paired with Headset or PC? My gamepad works fine paired to headset while playing through Virtual Desktop, My problem is that it doesn't work via Air-Link while paired with googles. Space where I'm playing is too far from PC to pair gamepad with it.
This means a flight longer than 5 - 10 minutes will terminate/pause unless the controller is being played with. Long haul flights over the atlantic from Heathrow to JFK - heathrow to dubai etc are just not feasible IF you have to be holding the controller. There need to be an override to facilitate long haul regardless of the state of the controller, and to keep the screen active.
I had this issue as well on PC. I have my Xbox controller attached to my yoke and use it to control cameras and some other functions. After said time elapsed, the controller would go to sleep. Only in my case, it would cause a disconnection event which would cause the sim to freeze for 30-60 seconds and potentially CTD.

I have a problem with my xbox (one) controller. The controller doesn't connect via bluetooth to my computer and the with cable my computer doesn't recognise it ( Xbox accessories App). when I go to the device manager I can see this ( look at the picture below sorry my computer is in french).
I tried cleaning my computer from junk files, deleting the drivers and reinstalling them, nothing.
When I try to link the controller with my computer with bluetooth my computer says the exact same thing as this post :
-an-issue/xbox-controller-driver-error-when-connecting-...
The controller works just fine with my phone, so the problem lies with my OS which is windows 11.
Thank you for helping me !
Hello,
After exprole the horizon update my controller (MS Xbox controller, gen9) is not working properly in Forza horizon 5 (steam version) menus. Its impossible to navigate in menu since right stick, left stick, arrows, triggers and buttons are overresponding. Slightest touch in menu sends me couple of pages/cars etc. I have had this same problem couple of updates ago too, but it fixed itself after next update so I moved on.
I was wondering if I could somehow program the quadrocopter to respond to my Xbox controller. I was planning on using my laptop's Bluetooth connection to talk to copter. The Xbox controller which is connected to the computer would be then used to control the quadrocopter. So my question is, how exactly do I program the controller? How do I go about making all of this possible?
Yes, in general this idea is perfectly plausible. However the method is going to be specific to your setup. I.e. the operating system you are using on your control computer and the onboard controller that you are employing. In our lab we use an Ardupilot Mega as our onboard controller for some of our quadrotors. To solve this problem I used the Linux joystick API to acquire the data from the Xbox controller (or a PS3 controller for that matter). I can then send this data to an Arduino that I have used to replace the RC receiver or I can send it directly to the Ardupilot via Xbee using the Mavlink protocol. If you can provide more detail about your setup then I may be able to provide a more detailed response.
