I don't think that's correct. To the best of my knowledge RadioVIS for
FM does work on recent firmware versions and IP or Internet Radio
functionality has yet to be implemented as the spec isn't finalised.

Certainly on the Revo Axis in the offices of Global Radio we can see
RadioVIS against FM services.

Ok good to know.

Are you sure that RadioVIS works on FM? On my Revo Axis I get no RadioVIS and I have the latest firmware. Maybe there is a trick to get it working... My RadioVIS works fine on Pure Sensia. I can't test on DAB sine we still not have any commercial station on DAB in Sweden.

I have one set up for a station I work with, (still experimental) "10260.6699.se.fm.radiodns.org" and "10260.6699.6e3.fm.radiodns.org". Note that we don't broadcast any ECC.

Hmm, I suspect it's something to do with the country information.

I can't say authoritatively if the current firmware uses the ECC value
from FM or what it does if that information is not present.

As I said, I can see it working with services here in the UK - but it
may be a "hack" that makes that functionality work at the moment,
rather than a complete implementation.

Hi,

I just did some RDS measures and no commercial stations use ECC in my area only the "government" channels use ECC. So I hope Revo Axis support country code instead of ECC.

I you use a hack on your Revo Axis,please tell me so I can try it here.

Apologies, I meant there may be a shortcut in the current
implementation on the Axis to make it work that will get revised in a
future version to use proper country selection or ECC.

Again, I must iterate that this is purely an educated guess rather
than based on any factual information.

Hi,

Not using country code if ECC is missing that is the problem. I put up a 0.5W transmitter with RDS and used Capital RDS settings, now my Revo Axia show RadioVIS just fine.

Looks like we need a firmware update.

Hi,

Radios based on the Frontier Silicon IR 3.2.7 software (including the Revo Axis) support RadioVIS in DAB and FM modes.

In DAB mode, the support is as per the RadioVIS 1.0 specification, with the additional detail that if DAB MOT slideshow is present in the stream, this is used in preference to RadioVIS.

In FM mode, the ECC is not used - it uses the ISO 3166 two letter country code, which is chosen from a fixed list of known country codes.
In order to reduce the number of DNS lookups performed, the software uses the country ID from the first nybble of the PI code to help choose which country codes to try. It uses information from table 3 of the ETSI TS 101 756 v1.4.1 specification.

Hence the code for Sweden ("se") will only be tried if the first nybble of the PI code is 0xe. In the example below, the first nybble of the PI Code is 0x6, which is why the country code for Sweden was not tried.

Thanks Robin that explains it, the station is apparently using a nonstandard PI. Strangely it works on Pure Sensia.
