Prior to the call I circulated an alternative approach, proposed by Global Radio, to the auth model in Tag to assist with SSO and syndication (discussed in separate threads in this forum). On reflection the crossover with the EBU's MediaAUTH specification is significant.

Both specifications still have a number of issues to overcome, but are striving for similar goals. It would be the best use of everyones time if we can find a way to align and produce a single specification that covers the abstract concept of authentication for apps on devices (potentially beyond the scope of just radios).

With this in mind I would appreciate thoughts on re-focusing our energy, in line with the motion to split authentication from the core RadioTAG specification, to align our thinking with the MediaAUTH proposal.

Specifically I would appreciate if Mathias or Michael could answer some questions to better consider this proposal:
  1. When is it planned that MediaAUTH v1 will be finalised?
  2. How much influence could we have on the specification to ensure it meets the requirements for RadioTAG and radio devices in general versus other interested parties (such as TV)?

Hello Andy,

As a little background and as explained during the call, we have a project group at EBU which will work on a Cross-Platform Authentication and we would like to involve people working
and having expertise on this topic in order to release a global and common solution.

The subscription to the project will open beginning of August and will be followed by an introduction WebEX around August 20.

The following roadmap will be proposed during the WebEX :

September 2013, Analysis of the requirements and available technologies

October-November 2013, Conception and draft of the specification

December 2013 - February 2014, Implementation

March 2014, Deployment, Tests and Release of the specification

You will have the possibility to register to this group in order to participate to the discussion.
We will post in this thread the registration link.

Please, let me know if you have any questions or remarks,

Best regards,

Michael

Thanks for the detail Michael.

Could I suggest those on the list interested in taking part in the discussions to shape MediaAUTH prepare to register their interest with the EBU when they provide details of how to join.

It might also be worth having a think about what requirements our respective parties (for example, I will collate Global Radio's) have from an auth solution, so that we can strive to see a future MediaAUTH standard deliver these.

Just to give this thread a quick bump and remind those interested that it would be really helpful to collate requirements from different member organisations ahead of looking at authentication solutions.

We need to think about issues such as minimum device capabilities, level of user complexity to use, levels of security employed, do we need to adhere to specific standards? What business reasons may prevent particular implementations from working within your organisations?

I currently only have a list of requirements from Global Radio in the UK. Without having a set of requirements to judge each proposal against it will be hard to complete this work objectively.

Thank you.
