Hello all,

I am thinking about experimenting with an az/el rotator paired with a vertically polarized yagi to receive data from radiosondes. I know that Auto_RX has a feature for integration with an az/el rotator system, but I see no information on the GitHub - or anywhere else, for that matter - about how a rotator system can be linked to move and track a radiosonde live in flight. Does anybody know or have experience in trying this out?

Thanks,

There's a little bit of information on what needs to be done here: https://github.com/projecthorus/radiosonde_auto_rx/wiki/Configuration-Settings#controlling-an-azimuthelevation-rotator-via-rotctld

Using a high gain antenna on a rotator with auto_rx is only useful in the case where you are tracking a single radiosonde at a very long distance, from a single known launch site.
In most cases, you are better off using a higher gain vertical antenna.

Cheers,

We ( Rémi F1NNI ) have setup Rémi's radiosonde_auto_rx  with rotctld and 902 SPID Rot1Prog model.

I had to edit code to have always 0 elevation command to not hang rotctld ( only azimuth rotor model ).

This would be the case because when this feature was requested, it was for an az/el rotator. Nobody ever mentioned issues with azimuth rotators, and since I don't run a rotator, I haven't encountered the issue myself.

In the future, if you encounter an issue like this, rather than just going and editing the code, consider raising an issue on the radiosonde_auto_rx repository, so I can become aware of the issue and work on a more generic fix.
