Hi,

This is Rainer from Mexico and thanks to Dr. Salvador Aguirre from Hermosillo Sonora who pointed me to this groups. Since many years I am an amateur astronomer with an own Observatory attached to my house.

I have a RTL-SDR since about two weeks and so far have read a lot about how it works. Have been searching like crazy for a suitable transmitter and I think that maybe I found one.

It is located in Hermosiilo Sonora, belongs to the State University of Sonora and transmits on Channel 8 180 MHz. The tower is 1225 km away from my location which is the city of San Luis Potosí, San Luis Potosi in central Mexico.

I have been doing some tests and recording video with Audio. I just finished analyzing manually the video and I think I got some hits ¿?

Here the extracts of some peaks. I left 2 seconds before and 2 seconds after the peaks.

The video is 1 minute 37 seconds long and has ~ 57 MB

Am I on the right track ?

Thanks for your comments and tips

regards Rainer

Yes it seems to be backscatter echo from a meteorite. However 180 MHz is a very high frequency for MS Backscatter. Around 60 MHz is about the optimum. Scan and see if you can find any distant transmitter on a lower frequency, preferably blow 100 MHz. I have attached a block diagram how my own signal chain looks like.

Hi Bo,

Thanks for the answer and yes about the frequency which is what I have been reading about.

Well I am trying to find transmitter with lower frequencies but so far no success. Today finally I found a Transmitter in Texas, USA which transmits on Channel 5 = 76 MHz and this one is approximately 930 km from my site.. Will let run my setup tonight on that frequency.

At least it was a success to have some signals looking like Meteor strikes.

regards Rainer

Hi and Thanks

I am still learning and fighting my way through Spectrum Lab and ARGO and soon Meteorlogger, etc.
