Dear All,

2013 was a great year for RadioEPG, and we're hoping that 2014 will be an even better one. The project has seen a significant uptake in interest, with more Broadcasters and more Device and Application integrations,

As more people use the technology, I've been fielding more questions about practical implications. This follows on from some work that was started a while back, on producing an implementation guidance document. I'm now opening this work up for wider discussion by the formation of the RadioEPG Implementation Working Group.

Initially, this group will consist of a smaller grouping of people, drawn from across the global industry - Broadcasters, Device Manufacturers and other interested parties. I'd like to focus this group on a set of topics, with the aim of completing the guidance document. The group will also discuss whether there is a need to make any changes to the specification, based on a wider set of use-cases.

Some of the things we'll be discussing are:

* Scalability and arrangements of Service Information documents
* Implementation guidelines for Broadcasters (from simple scenarios to more complex ones, where Service and Schedule documents can be more dynamic)
* Device UI behaviours - what expectations should a Device Manufacturer have, and how can Broadcasters assist in showing their preference

RadioDNS projects are open projects, and so I'd like as these discussions to take place on this public group. Should that not be possible (phone conferences, for example), I'll summarise any conclusions to this public group.

I'm grateful to the following people for agreeing to be part of the initial working group:

Sebastian ArtymiakVPRT
Sebastian KettSüdwestrundfunk
Clive DickensSouthern Cross Austereo
Alan JurisonClearchannel
Robin CookseyFrontier Silicon
Jan RothAntenne Bayern
Giacomo ShimmingsBBC

My aim will be to facilitate the discussions (and complete them in a fairly short timescale), as well as bring in the views of my employer, Global Radio. If you feel you have something to add by being part of this group, based on the topics above, then please drop me a mail (ben....@radiodns.org).

Many thanks and best wishes for the New Year,

Ben
