Hi colleagues,

first of all thanks alot to Ben for all the work, he invested in the new RadioEPG Draft.

As the RDNS and IMDA matches together, there is one topic still open, that I miss in the documents, or anywhere on the webservers, with a link to the documentation.

Is anywhere descirbed, who the content provided or linked via RadioDNS can be used!?

e.g. is it allowed to rescale pictures, to ad pre roll commercials to audiostreams, to sell pictures or streams, ...

I already asked broadcasters and they told me, that I'm allowed to show and stream the provided but e.g. I'm not allowd, to sell it, but this is not defined.

Thanks a lot
Max

Hi Max,

Thank you for your kind words, and your note about the Terms and Conditions link from the XSI document, as it serves to be a timely reminder.

This functionality was a suggestion for inclusion from the IMDA specification, as nothing previously existed in RadioEPG. At the time of discussion, this was seen to be non-functional and so we put it to one side while we discussed other matters. The intention was then to revisit this at a later stage in the context of a discussion about the policy and legal aspects of including terms and conditions.

After some discussion and feedback, I think that this is something that will be need, and it makes sense to define a place for it, for Broadcasters to use if they wish. A conversation about how this fits in legally should additionally be had, although I'm sure you would agree that this technical forum would not be the best place to have it.

Therefore, I propose we include an optional link from the XSI to a terms and conditions URL. This would follow the way suggested from the IMDA specification (attribute on the root element, if I remember). The submission of the RadioEPG specification to the RadioDNS Steering Board would include a note that a discussion on the legalities should be started, for the SB to coordinate.

Many thanks,

Ben
