PTT vs Mox PiHPSDR

Is there a way to map Midi to do PTT instead of Mox in PiHPSDR/Thetis/OpenHPSDR?  Midi can send on/off signals but everything I see is just Mox.  I'd like to have the feeling of a true mic or foot switch and not a mouse click on and click off.  Sometimes the mouse moves and you don't click off.  Not even sure why Mox is so popular.  My opinion. Just looking for reasons.
