Looking on help or advise how to assign button directly to what I want and not go thru all options. For example, i want to assign button MODE directly to CW or USB or LSB.
Thank you.

For PiHPSDR, I don't beleive you can do that through MIDI.  There isn't a command for each mode you can assign to it.  Only to cycle through them.  You might look into CAT using an arduino or similar instead of MIDI.

I think so too. But I found an article F5NPV about a MIDI controller and I see buttons directly related to CW or SSB. Although the program script specifies as mode + mode -.

Wow..
The approach of F5NPV both intelligent and powerful.
-> https://f5npv.wordpress.com/quisk-midi-controller/

It appears to read signals from a MIDI controller,
 converting them into keyboard and mouse operations via a tool called “xdotool” to control the Quisk on the RPi.
 I don't know the specifics.. but it probably enables it to do things not covered by MIDI commands.

The CAT controller looks interesting too. by John Melton G0ORX
