Hi All,

A lot of changes in the software stack are done to make the radioberry run at a rpi-5.

If you are interested in more details look into the attached file.

Thank you so much! I finally got my Radioberry CL016 working on my Raspberry Pi 5.

Notes about the Aliexpress RB2-Board:

In the document attached by Johan, the Transmit harmonic spectrum is somewhat poor,
this is caused by the board purchased from Aliexpress.

-> On my board, there was no filter chip on Rfout; instead, a 0Ω resistor was fitted.

For boards where the filter is omitted, recommend adding a bandpass filter or LPF.

Today I've upgraded the Radioberry. Since that upgrade, I can no longer set the TX power per band on the PA menu. And the output power is now a tad excessive, even considering that I already have a 20 dB attenuator at the input of my 10W amplifier, that accepts 0 dBm. Now it is producing 15 W, which is still not too overdriven. Any thoughts?

Kind regards, Samuel Lourenço

Is there a receiver only variant for the rpi-5 build? Something with more than 6 rx channels?

Thanks,
Jayson

Hi Jason,

I think you would have to build your own board, and create your own driver for that.

Kind regards, Samuel Lourenço

For the rpi-5 you are asking... the rpi-5 using the pio mode you have the image does support 6 Rx and 1 TX ; you have the possibility to compile the gateware for the CL025 FPGA with 7 RX slices.

Furthermore using the rb2 with juice board and the rpi-5 you are able to run 10 RX slices...   Rick Koch N1GP :   https://github.com/n1gp/Radioberry-2.x/tree/master/juice/firmware

Running sparksdr you are also able to add virtual receivers; doing different modes in the same bandwith.

So there is a lot to experiment.

...

i did a short test with a small dipole antenna... in relative short time i was able to report 100 countries....

picture does show sparksdr (part of the image) connected to radioberry at a rpi5 running 8 channels....

Very cool! What bandwidth are the receiver slices? I've been considering if it's worth upgrading from a RPI4. It sounds like maximum throughput is still the Juice board. Something to think about.

Sparksdr is able to use virtual receivers within a rx slice /channel.

With a radioberry using CL025 FPGA you have now 6 rx channels available and within  these 6 channels you can add virtual receivers wich are decoding a digital mode.

The presented results achieved with radioberry clicked on top of the rpi-5 (no juice).

See attachment showing the performance improvement achieved by using DMA and statemachines using the rpi-5.

Enjoy
