I just got off the telephone talking with Peter MacDonald, a Navajo Code Talker who I met about 10 years ago at the Marshfield Council on Aging where he gave a talk about the Navajo Code Talkers. We talked for a half hour afterwards and exchanged telephone numbers.

After the Japanese attacked our Navy Base at Pearl Harbor, on December 7. 1941, he and several hundred patriotic Navajo joined our Armed Forces by volunteering. What they eventually did probably tipped several battles in the Pacific theater.

They are heros, not additions because of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). They volunteered to join the Armed Forces after their BELOVED United States of America was attacked.  That's what men do.  We protect what we love.

The image shows Peter MacDonald, a 96-year- old Navajo Code Talker, whose history along with other Native veterans was recently restored by the Pentagon.

• MacDonald, along with Thomas H. Begay, are the only two living Navajo Code Talkers.

The Navajo code, developed during World War II, used Navajo words to create a glossary of over 200 terms.

• This code was crucial in the Pacific theater, saving lives and aiding in the war effort.

MacDonald is wearing a US Marine Corps uniform with a "Code Talker" patch and turquoise jewelry.

The Pentagon's restoration of their histories occurred after public outcry.

I thanked Peter for what he did and he wants me to tell you that Navajo Code Talkers was a weapon, a very effective weapon.

Peter was a United States Marine weapon, he was a top secret Code Talker. He is a living hero.

Thanks for that David.

Our first big fly-drive holiday in the USA, back in 1994, found us in Kayenta, Arizona, en-route from Monument Valley to Grand Canyon.

We stopped at a diner which had a big display devoted to these wonderful men. It was the first I'd heard of them, but I've never forgotten their remarkable story.

I hope that display is still there ...

I met Mr. MacDonald a few years ago (picture below). He was a most gentle soul and contributed so much to our country. We talked about how the language used by the Marines was developed. A true American Hero.

Semper fidelis to my brother Marine 🇺🇸. Marines who served in the past paved the way for current and future Marines. OORAH! When I was an active duty Marine stationed in Hawai'i, I ended up getting a job as an extra in the movie Windtalkers. I got to meet 1 or 2 Navajo code talkers who consulted for the film :)

73 and Semper fidelis,
Frank
