Re. WSF.... I visited the station at the top of a building in
downtown Manhattan one Sunday morning in July 1967 with an old
retired Radio Officer, Al Rowe, who had taken me under his wing
when I arrived at the Seaman's Church Institute looking for my
first ship after having graduated from the Merchant Marine School
in Rimouski that April. There was only one person at that station
that morning, i.e. the radio-operator himself. (Reminds me of
Hodeida Radio/4WD in North Yemen which I visited also when my ship
m/s Taipoosek/VRFR docked there in the Fall of 1971 where there
was only one opr (Yemenite) and one tech. (Russian). All the
equipment (MF and HF w/t only, no
R-T whatsoever) was Russian-made. What a good little station that
was. Unfortunately, the opr could only speak Arabic so my visit
was rather limited in exchange of info.
I did send you a Christmas card. If you didn't received it, then
you might have changed your postal adz without my knowledge of
it.
My son, Skylar, came down to Truro, N.S. with his two kids (Emmitt
11 and Isabella 15) for my 79th birthday on * Dec. 27th celebrated
at my Chicago friends who now live just outside Truro (they left
the U.S. a few years ago because they couldn't stand Trump). My
daughter, Evangeline, also came down with her Canadian boyfriend
(and Zelda...her boyfriend's dog) while she was in Nova Scotia for
a month. She's been living in London, England for the past 12
years having her own business (therapeutic masssage therapy) with
only a few selected patients, most of them rich retired couples
who mostly live in the Notting Hill section of London. She goes to
their homes to administer massages to them. In fact, one couple
let her live in an apt. they own in Notting Hill (one of the
richest parts of London) for a very low rent. The rent would
normally go for about US$3,000/ month but she gets it for only a
fraction of that. They told her that she could make up the
difference in services. (She charges about US$300/hr as London is
one of the most expensive places to live in the world!) As for
her, she doesn't have any kids and there is very little chance
that she ever will, now that she's 40! Sad, as I would have loved
to have grand-kids from her since I have very very little contact
with Emmitt and 'Bella even though my son when he became 1st
Lieutenant (Canadian Army) was transferred to Halifax from New
Brunswick. It's the daughter-in-law, you see, as she hates me and
I never found out the reason why! Go figure....
Gotta go as I have a pile of paper work to take care of.
You have pain? You're not alone: I have had to endure pain in my
left leg and buttock for 2 years steady. It's pretty bad and take
a lot of pain killers. Welcome to the club.

*My wife, Rasami, couldn't come as she had the flu and didn't want
to pass it along to anyone.
