Just acquired a Marconi Atlanta rx. Downloaded the manual (48 pages) and schematics, (4 pages), but the two sockets on the rear, SKB and SKC present a problem as I don't have the plugs and cables. Does anyone have the pinouts of the sockets/plugs or the component diagram, or the technical manual? Thanks in advance.

Peter,

Congratulations! You acquired a nice and also good looking receiver! I love mine, and I’ve been hoping for years that I’d find a Marconi Ocean Span or Globe Span transmitter to match it, so far no luck…

Anyway, I’ll look at my manual and will get back to you ASAP with the info.

Thanks Meir, really appreciate it.

The guy I bought it from had a working ships radio room in his house! Marconi Challenger TX, Oceanic Rx (which is actually a Dansk Rx), A/A, emerg Tx, everything including the morse key. It was taken from the Iron Kembla, a BHP iron ore carrier. He didn't want to part with it unfortunately!!

Peter,

You write Dansk RX  -- was the Oceanic an  Elektromekano / Dansk Radio, a company I worked for.
Do you have a description or photo? There were a few other Danish companies producing ships radio
systems.  Elektromekno was founded in tandem with and to suit the needs of the Danish shipping concerns
Maybe a bit like RCA (also worked for them in my younger days), which I understand was at least in part
formed to make the US Navy (ditto, in my  younger days) independent of British Marconi.

Hi Henry,

In the photo in my last post, the Marconi Oceanic receiver is the 2nd one up on the left in the rack of equipment. I was told it is just a re-badged Dansk receiver but I'm not sure, as it's the first time I've seen it, so I know nothing about it. However when I worked at Brisbanradio/VIB, we used the Dansk RX4000 which is similar.

Hi Peter nice stn indeed. I write every month a modest and personal maritime bulletin, do you mind if I insert your photos in the next one.
Unfortunately this bulletin is written mainly in French.

Hi Peter

Right - the receiver does look very much the Danish Skanti(sp?) Radio units -- we at Dansk Radio shared contracts
with Skanti - otherwise we competed. We called the rcvrs "paragraf modtager" -- §  Receivers, because they met
the minimum legal requirements for ship's radios.
Didn't notice the photo attachment-- while listening to the news and following a CW QSO on 40 meters at the same
time!  Multi-tasking for me usually means multi-screwing up!  - I do remember Skanti had a -4000 ships radio series,
and I worked on the tech manual for it after I left Dansk Radio.

The 4000 series were nicely designed, appearance wise. Dansk Radio was also awarded the Danish Design Prize for the exceptional appearance of some of their marine radio gear. Scandinavians are very good at industrial art/design and applied art.

The Skanti 8000 series was a superb system.

Must have taken over Dansk Radio's 8000 series when the company closed down.
I wrote and/or revised the tech. and sales documentation for Dansk R.'s 8000 series
and still have a copy of the manuals and most of the broachers from 1981.
(1980's, therefore dubbed 8000, as far as I know)

Hi

Have a look on both receivers, the „Dansk Radio M 3000“ and the „Marconi OCEANIC“ here:

Hello all

I have used that actual rx a bit.  I was involved in the GMDSS conversion of that particular ship.

Peter,

Sorry it took this long to reply, but it took me a while to locate my Atalanta manual. I’ll scan the pertinent info and will email it to you tomorrow.
