THE LONG SILENCE FALLS
By Mike Snell

When the Long Silence falls
And the Morse no longer calls
Our thoughts turn back to sea
To those days so long ago
Which are written on the soul
When we tapped out those rhythms on a key
No vessel could sail or go
Without the ship's RO
We saw so many ports
And sailed to tropic climes
Where young ladies knew their lines
And the world seemed so much bigger then
If we journeyed out to east
And maybe life's exotic feast
And for some those days still hold their yen
Oh we were young and free
All because of Marconi
But alas those days are now long gone
Like a thief in the night there came a satellite
And to the sea we no longer belong
We are just a memory
Of the Twentieth Century
From Liverpool to Old Hong Kong
