Dear Shrishtee, Ashish
I wanted to reach out to share some news about our latest film collaboration – and take this moment to wish you and all GTA colleagues, peace, joy and the company of family, friends and kin as the winter/summer solstice draws near, and the end of this calendar year.
From the Gaia team and our Kenyan partners SALT, we are thrilled to share the release of ATHARAKA. Meaning ‘those of Tharaka’ in the local language, the film follows Kenyan clans bringing the ecological and cultural diversity of their ancestral lands back to life. The story with video embedded, can be seen on the website of the African Earth Jurisprudence Collective.
No doubt Simon will have been sharing the link with you all, but there’s no harm in adding to his presentation 😊 . Today we are delighted that, after a premiere with the Tharaka community, as well as screening it internationally at independent film festivals, the film is now available on YouTube, Vimeo, and streaming platform WaterBear (search ATHARAKA
Luminous images, intimate portraits, and vibrant landscapes create a tender experience—one that honors the faces, gestures, and customs of those who continue to carry their identity in their hands, voices, and daily practices. In times when climate change and forgetting threaten to erase centuries of wisdom, Atharaka offers a breath of fresh air and reminds us that the next generations must become guardians of life. Enjoy 15 minutes, to “be pulled completely into its embrace”, as our friend Nnimmo Bassey put it.
With love, and in solidarity with all the GTA,
Fiona
