here is a very occasional newsflash about
technology-critical events.
1. Pull the Plug march TOMORROW February 28 12 noon
The first (as far as we are aware) protest against AI in the
UK, organised by Pull the Plug.
We’re taking the AI debate off the internet and onto the
streets, in the first ever march on AI in the UK. The march will be followed by
an assembly, where we will come together to reflect on how AI affects us, and
imagine a better way of using this technology in our lives. On the same day,
community groups around the country, coordinated by Global Action Plan, will
take action outside local data centre sites plastering their local countryside.
Join the March Against The Machines, Saturday 28th February, 12–4pm, Starting point: Outside the OpenAI office, York House,
Fora, 221 Pentonville Rd, London N1 9UZ.
2. Rippleffect book launch
I'm delighted to invite you
to join the launch of "Algorithms of Collapse", an
"ebooklet" about AI and automation, and how social and
political movements will be affected by it. It's
RipplEffect's
first edition,
a quick
and deep dive into AI as an all encompassing project
for capitalism, a book about how capitalism intends
to metamorphose in the next decades with AI and how
we need to push back in different ways. Algorithms
of Collapse looks into what AI is, it’s myths, the
ideology that feeds and is fed by it, how it's been
designed to become a factory of nightmares in
different areas, how it works and how it isn’t going
away, so we need plans not to be crushed by it.
Since the election of Donald Trump, the very same tech
billionaires that are foisting AI upon us are aiming to do the same with
genetically modified designer babies. They have made a series of announcements
about new start-up companies, devoted to developing this technology, whilst openly proclaiming their eugenicist and
fascist political opinions. In the UK there will be attempt in the next two
years to become the first country to legalise human genetic modification (HGM).
And the government has announced plans to sequence the DNA of every child at
birth. If you think that designer baby eugenics is not a good idea and would
like to help stop it, email in...@stopdesignerbabies.org. You can also sign the International
Declaration Against Legalisation of Human Genetic Modification at https://coalitionstopdesignerbabies.net/.
