Dear ICCA Consortium friends and colleagues,
Good day to you all!
This article on mining in Palawan was published online, today. By reading it, you will get an idea of how severe the situation is:
https://www.newmandala.org/extracting-value-losing-ground-the-critical-minerals-boom-in-palawan/
We also would like to take this opportunity to inform all of you that the international action letter to stop commercial mining operations in Palawan, is picking up very well.
https://www.regenwald.org/csl/76692b78-f383-4df4-814f-be085bec09eb/en
So far, it has been signed by 83 organizations from around the world: from Philippines, Indonesia, Australia and the Pacific, the Indian Continent, the Middle East, Central and Latin America, different European countries, the US and Africa. Unfortunately, the ICCA Consortium signature is not yet there! And, sorry to say, the support from ICCA Consortium member organisations has been rather weak.
Again, we would like to encourage, as many Consortium member organizations to sign and, of course, the signature of the ICCA Consortium would be a great boast to this action. Please, remember that this letter is only for organisations to sign (not for individuals). If your organization signs, the logo can be sent separately to us (CALG). This also applies if the Consortium, as a whole, decides to sign, then the logo could be forwarded via email, as suggested above. The logos of all signatories, will be added to the printed copy of the letter to be submitted to the President of the Philippines, the Provincial Government of Palawan, to various authorities mentioned at the beginning of the letter, and to the UNESCO.
This is a urgent and necessary call. It only takes a few minutes to sign online.
