by Alice MooreHow many of you have eaten a meal in peace lately and what does it mean to eat a meal in peace, anyway?
Many of us are so hard on ourselves, judging ourselves for what we are eating all the time. Consider that "how" we eat is just as important as "what" we eat.
Sitting down and eating can aid digestion as well as breathing and chewing. Breathing assists the esophagus in moving food down to the stomach. Chewing helps break down the food to prepare for digestion. Basic eighth grade biology, it's true, but how many of us actually sit down, breath and chew?
Honor your body today and try these simple steps:
1. Sit down to eat.
2. Take a deep breath.
3. Look at your food.
4. Smell your food.
5. Take another deep breath.
6. Take a bite.
7. Chew it well.
8. Put the fork down.
9. Take a deep breath.
10. Say to yourself or out loud: "Thank you for this food"
(Expressing gratitude for our meal is a wonderful way to slow down and feel peace. How glorious that we get to eat each day, several times a day! There is so much to be grateful for)
If you cannot do all the steps, try one or two to start.
Eat a meal in peace this week and let us know how it goes.
