Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances! All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev!
We are all in times when we are entangled in the rat race of completion everywhere. We are human beings no more but participants in the rat race and those who are incompetent are victimized and condemned and there is no question of compassion or cooperation. The schools have become breeding grounds for nurturing selfishness and competition instead of cooperation and selflessness. Recently one of my friend's son got admitted to a place where they intensely coach the children for admission to the IITs. I asked them whether he got some friends there and I was shocked to learn that the children are so much into scoring marks and the atmosphere is so surcharged with competitive spirit that the children do not form any friendships with anyone and see each other only as their competitor and have no time to resolve the difficulties faced by others, which they will be bound to do if they develop friendship. Where are we heading with this slaughter house educational system?
In this regard, I came across the following story which I would like to share here for the benefit of all. There was a farmer who grew excellent quality corn. Every year he won the award for the best grown corn. One year a newspaper reporter interviewed him and learned something interesting about how he grew it. The reporter discovered that the farmer shared his seed with his neighbours. "How can you afford to share your best seed corn with your neighbours when they are entering in the competition with yours each year?" The reporter asked. The farmer said, "Don't you know? The wind picks up pollen from the ripening corn and swirls it from field to field. If my neighbours grow inferior corn cross pollination will steadily degrade the quality of my corn. If I am to grow good corn I must help my neighbours grow good corn."
So it is with our lives. Those who want to live meaningfully and well must help enrich the lives of others, for the value of life is measured by the lives it touches. We should understand that the welfare of each is bound up with the welfare of all. The fact is none of us truly wins until we all win.
Krishna willing we shall continue further on this topic in the subsequent offering.
Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev,
Vaijayanti mala devi dasi,
Abu dhabi.
