Hello there,
Any of you who use GB3RD, the 2m repeater sited on the Berkshire Downs, to the west of Reading, may be interested to know that the logic has changed. Otherwise, the power has not changed and neither have the antenna or filters.
Chris, G0JTN and I visited the site on Tuesday and changed the repeater transceiver. Previously, it used a Key Radio KF450 and this has been replaced by a newer Key KF510 base station. The previous logic was fairly basic, having a voice announcement and sent a "T" at the end of a transmission and immediately dropped carrier. The new radio has internal logic with more flexibility. It does not have a voice capability. Now, when you stop transmitting, you will receive a "K", and a blank carrier of 10 seconds length followed by a morse callsign. The repeater then closes down.
Hopefully, one result of this will be that the repeater is more "visible" and will encourage more activity. Please remember you still have to use a CTCSS tone of 118.8Hz. When not in use, the repeater will send a morse identification followed by the letter "J" every 15 minutes. The "J" indicates which CTCSS tone is in use.
Why not give it a try.
