Folks,
Next meeting is on Thursday 23rd April.
This time we welcome Paul Beaumont G7VAK in person for a talk entitled "Number stations 1950s to the present". For those of you too young to remember, Radio 4 describes them as "Disembodied voices
reading out unexplained sets of number's accompanied by strange sections
of music. These haunting sounds were thought to be reaching out to
contact spies, particularly during the Cold War". From memory, they were generally scattered across short wave. I am sure many will recall "The Lincolnshire Poacher".
Eyes down: 8pm.
Zoom info at the end.
He will look at modes used, the different styles of sending, and will
present several examples where number stations were used and stated in
the prosecution of the recipients.
This talk was given at RSGB conference in 2025.
Paul is very much looking forward to meeting us.
Refreshments (tea/coffee) will be available as usual, with biscuits. Please bring a mug if you wish to partake. You are also welcome to bring along your favourite tipple.
