| Spotlight on service: Lebanon | ||
Did you know
that road traffic injuries are the leading cause of death worldwide among young people ages 10-24? The Rotaract Club of Beirut Cosmopolitan partnered with local road
safety advocate Kunhadi to help kids and parents get to
school safely. During United Nations Road Safety Week, they installed safe pedestrian crossings in front of two schools where children cross heavy
traffic to get to class. The #SaveKidsLives traffic safety
awareness campaign aims to reduce the high number of pedestrian accidents through community outreach and projects. Become a road safety advocate and
post your stories with your signboard selfie. Seven Rotaract clubs across Lebanon partnered to reduce traffic accidents, improve air quality, and promote public transportation
through the Bus Stops Project. Rotaractors identified an
immediate community need: adequate shelters along bus routes. They met with municipal leaders and conducted field work to determine strategic
locations for shelters in each community. One Rotaract member who’s an architect created the innovative shelter design and all members raised
funds for the construction. Now that the first seven bus shelters are in place, one municipality has already adopted the design and worked with their
local Rotaract club to produce more shelters for the community. How do you create sustainable solutions to community needs? | ||
