Dear NYC Human Rights Advocates and Racial Justice organizers:

Unfortunately, we have to postpone tomorrow's meeting for the NYC CERD Working Group (originally scheduled for June 1st). A number of members are unable to attend due to conferences and prior meetings scheduled for the same date. We will reschedule the meeting for the third week in June and will circulate the exact date and time shortly. In the meantime, if you interested in heading up a working group, please contact us at ed...@urbanjustice.org.

Thank you!

Ejim and Ramona

NYC CERD Working Group Meeting

Dear NYC Human Rights Advocates and Racial Justice organizers:

Please join us for an important meeting to discuss and develop the CERD Shadow Report working groups for NYC.

DATE: Friday, June 1, 2007

TIME: 10 a.m. to 12 noon

PLACE: 123 William St. 16th Fl. (2/3 to Fulton)

The Human Rights Project is coordinating a NYC report to feed into a national shadow report to CERD (Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination). The formation of the working groups is a key element to this process.  The working groups will serve as the central point of organizing for groups and individuals interested in being involved in this national effort.  We are all working hard for racial justice in our communities and the CERD shadow reporting process gives us an opportunity to link our work across neighborhoods, communities, and issue areas.  As we prepare to make sure the U.S. is held accountable in Geneva in March of 2008, we are also planning local campaigns related to CERD and need your input.  This will the second in a series of dialogues, meetings, and workshops that HRP will be hosting over the next six months and we urge you to send a delegate from your organization to participate.

The agenda will include

q                  Overview of the US submission to CERD

q                  The NYC shadow report process and timeline

q                  Issue areas and content & development of working groups

Please send rsvp to Ejim Dike at ed...@urbanjustice.org
