We wanted to send you a reminder about Tuesday's meeting to discuss and
develop the CERD Shadow Report working groups for NYC.
DATE: Tuesday, June 19, 2007
TIME: 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
PLACE: Urban Justice Center, 123 William Street, 16th Fl. (2/3 to
Fulton)
The Human Rights Project is coordinating a NYC report to feed into a
national shadow report to CERD (Committee on the Elimination of Racial
Discrimination). The formation of the working groups is a key element to
this process. The working groups will serve as the central point of
organizing for groups and individuals interested in being involved in
this national effort. We are all working hard for racial justice in our
communities and the CERD shadow reporting process gives us an
opportunity to link our work across neighborhoods, communities, and
issue areas. As we prepare to make sure the U.S. is held accountable in
Geneva in March of 2008, we are also planning local campaigns related to
CERD and need your input. This will the second in a series of
dialogues, meetings, and workshops that HRP will be hosting over the
next six months and we urge you to send a delegate from your
organization to participate.
The agenda will include
--Overview of the US submission to CERD
--NYC shadow report process and timeline
--Issue areas and development of working groups
Attached please find a brief overview of the US state report to CERD.
