Forest Road
http://goo.gl/maps/Dh97d
The school has 200 kids and 10 computers. My Gosl is to scale out to the 5 public primary schools within the area and reach out to 5000 kids with Rachael P.I content however minimal.
I am a Small scale Farmer and do all my communication on phone.
So far i have the P.I and some basic knowledge and ready to learn

Team,

An update.  I am working with Zack to get him a copy of RACHEL USB with the GCF Learn Free lessons added thanks to Hacker For Charity.  We hope to get him the copy as soon as my colleague Br. Dan Emmanuel returns from Juba, South Sudan to Nairobi.

The plan is to install RACHEL USB on as many existing LANS and computers as practical in Soy, Kenya.  Soy is relatively blessed with reliable grid power and working computer labs with LANS and more importantly people such as Zack working for the development of their computer.

Suggestions and advice are always welcome. We will keep you posted.

Best, Ed

Update 2: Back-Up source wanted for RACHEL USB for Soy, Kenya

Br. Emmanuel's return to Nairobi has been delayed by his day job work in South Sudan.  He now expects to reach Nairobi after the first week of May.  (The good news is that he has a new Land Cruiser arriving for the project that is his day job.  The bad news for Soy is that he has to use it immediately to proceed to Narus, South Sudan by road and then return to Nairobi probably via Lokichoggio, Kenya.)

I am going to work with Zack Matare and his brother Charles in Nairobi to see there is another place where they could make a copy of RACHEL USB, possibly in Jinja or Kampala, Uganda if that is convenient for folks there.  Alternatively, we can wait until May, but I do not want Br. Emmanuel to rush his visit in Narus because Narus is our main RACHEL deployment in South Sudan from February, 2013.  Br. Emmanuel has the first RACHEL Pi for South Sudan to leave with them if they want to use it, particularly for the periods when they have no electricity.  We have our own slower backup, if necessary.  My daughter should be returning to Nairobi in the end of May.

All for now, Ed

Does dan already have a copy? If not I can send it to Kijabe on my kids bus next week just one hour outside Nairobi.

Wait! Better idea! Have Charles and Zack come to Jinja. We can train them in the use of the Pi, likely donate a unit and give him the RACHEL+GCF and other goodies.

Sam, do you think a pelican would work there?

Johnny and Zack,

Johnny,

Thanks for the offer.

Br. Dan has several copies, but he is tied up in South Sudan until about the second week in May.

Zack,

Let us know what works best for you.  It might be easier to wait for Br. Dan to get back to Nairobi so he can copy it for your brother Charles and also train him a bit while copying it.  Once Br. Dan gets to Nairobi its pretty easy to meet up with him because he works all hours to help spread RACHEL.  However, I am saving his energy for Soy because of your good work.  I really cannot ask him to try to help everyone in Kenya.  Or course, it is Br. Dan's decision, but I cannot make any more promises for him as his other work is really picking up.

Your call.

Ed

Johnny and Zack,

Johnny,

This is an even more generous offer.  Zack may not be able to take you up because of the cost of travel and the time away from his farm.

Zack,

If I were you, I would try to get the schools to pay for you or one of the computer teachers to go to Jinja, but this may not be possible until they see a copy of RACHEL.  So in that case, you can wait for Charles and Br. Dan to connect in Nairobi.

I realize you probably do not have any funding for this.  As I explained, my funds are committed to South Sudan and Robert was clear his funds were currently limited to the cost of something small such as a RACHEL Pi or a USB Flash Drive.

We will get this sooner or later.

Best, Ed

Jeremy,

I just got a WhatsApp message from Zack.  He does not want to travel now, partly because he is being treated for a corneal ulcer.  He is looking forward to meeting Br. Emmanuel later in May.

I suggest we start with a copy from Br. Emmanuel and then see what plan the schools in Soy come up with and what their priorities are and what support they can organize locally.

Ed
