[This is my Trail] 总统大选: The Big Choose

Some timely vocabulary:

President (of a Republic): 总统 (zongtong)
Vice President: 副总统 (fu zongtong)
Election: 大选 (da xuan) (literally: big choose)
Biden: 拜登 (bai deng) (yes, have a little giggle because his name is "buy deng")
McCain: 麦凯恩 (mai kai en) (the same first character as McDonalds)
Obama: 奥巴马 (ao ba ma) (the same first character as the Olympics--so we know the Chinese all love him!)
Palin: 佩林 (pei lin) (I have nothing to say about this woman)
Progress: 进展 (jinzhan)
Maverick: 独立见解 (duli jianjie) or 独行侠 (duxing xia)
I voted: 我已投票 (wo yi toupiao)

I would make fun of the strange meanings of these candidates transliterated names, but it's been done already.

Thoughts on the election from my (Chinese) roommate:

1. Aobama is handsome.
2. Peilin is independent--like all you American women. Is she in the army? (referring to a picture of her with a gun in a Time magazine I brought back).
   
3. China will never (in our lifetime) chose their own president, but luckily Hu Jintao and Wen Jiabao (his sidekick/premiere) are good leaders.

A thought from my (Chinese) co-worker/office-mate: You already voted for Aobama? You only get one chance? Haha. Unless you vote early and vote often! Luckily, I think I got it right the first time. You may *respectfully* disagree, but if you disrespectfully disagree, I will Chinese kung fu you. Believe me. It won't be pretty.


*I would be equal opportunity and put a McCain T-shirt on here， but I haven't seen any in Chinese.
