Hey everyone!
Hope you guys are finally starting to settle into the new semester! Lots of sailing to look forward to for this season! Basically, this email is going to cover the practice plans for the semester, regatta schedule, and just little reminders about how the season is going to work, so PLEASE READ ALL OF IT.
Saturday Practices
Because of daylight savings(or the lack of sunlight in other words), we are not going to start Tuesday practices until the week of the SAISA Open(about a month away!). Until then, we are going to hold Saturday practices starting this Sat.(Jan. 23). For Saturday practices, rides will leave campus at 11:00am. If you have a car and are willing to drive, shoot me a text with how many open seats you have in your car. I will create a spreadsheet for rides like last semester. IF THIS PROCESS WAS CONFUSING OR DID NOT WORK FOR YOU, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I am so willing to change how we find rides to practice! I just need to know if this did or didn’t work for you guys. If it didn’t work well enough we can figure out another way!
(Remember the Frostbite Series at LLSC on Sundays! Races start at 1pm!)
2. Tuesday Practices
Until further notice, our first Tuesday practice will be on Feb. 16. Please fill out the When2Meet so we can figure out when is the best time to leave campus. Cars can be staggered, but the earlier we can leave, the better.
Starting next week, since we won’t have practice, we are going to hold chalk talks instead. If you can go to practices at all this semester, you can come to these! We are going to try to make it more like a higher level group discussion focused on certain topics, and everyone is expected to be there if they are available. Now is the time to ask questions and learn how things are supposed to be done; practice is the time that we practice those skills in the boat. Time for the talks is tentatively 6pm in a room TBD in the Student Center.
February 9th is a Tuesday. Keep this day in mind! Instead of practice or a chalk talk, I encourage everyone to try to go to the LLSC sponsored America’s Cup Presentation!
Here is the link to the LLSC website: https://www.llsc.com/ on the home page just look for the link to more information and registration for the event. Register ASAP if you plan on going! Rides can be coordinated as it gets closer, but Conner, Marten, Hannah, and myself are already going and we’d love for as many people as possible to come with us!
3. Regattas
We are going to keep the same process as this past Fall. Please please please let me know if you have any ideas on how to make things more clear/easier for this semester! I want to hear any ideas that you guys have about making things run smoother and better. I have attached a Google form with all of the dates, so please fill that out! Remember that attendance at practices, skill level, and availability are all taken into account when coming up with regatta rosters.
Along with our regular spring regatta schedule, we were able to choose 3 intersectional regattas to go to as well (perks of doing well last semester!!). Keep this in mind as you’re filling out the form. And yes! We do have one weekend with TWO regattas! This means twice as many people going away for the weekend!
I think I covered pretty much everything, but please don’t hesitate to contact me with questions!
Looking forward to this semester!
