My name is Rashad Thomas, President of the Young Black Males Support Network here at Western Michigan University. In collaboration with the Gamma Beta chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi and the Rainbow Push MI we would like to invite you to 'With Justice For All" w/ Rev. Jesse Jackson, Monday April 18th,2011 12pm at WMU Bernhard Center's East Ballroom.
Michigan is in crisis. The wave of anti labor policies, immoral budget cuts and a crippling education system in America is a persistent reality in MI. Governor Synder is the most prominent example of a new kind of politician that promotes sacrifice over investment. He sells the need for short term relief, but has no long term strategy for state economic recovery. Despite your political affiliation, the truth is Michigan's citizens are losing. We stand to lose the earned income tax credit, cities stand to lose needed tax revenue, the people stand to lose the will for a participatory democracy, and workers are losing the opportunity to earn a living wage. It is time to stand up!
The Reverend Jesse Louis Jackson, Sr., founder and president of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, is one of America’s foremost civil rights, religious and political figures. Over the past forty years, he has played a pivotal role in virtually every movement for empowerment, peace, civil rights, gender equality, and economic and social justice. On August 9, 2000, President Bill Clinton awarded Reverend Jackson the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor.
