From the ARCUS Center

Hello,

I am the Program Coordinator of Kalamazoo College's Arcus Center for Social Justice Leadership.

I want to let you know about an event coming up this Thursday, April 21 (short notice - apologies!) at 7:00 p.m. in Dalton Theater at Kalamazoo College. We will host two social justice lawyers who have spent their careers challenging racial injustice through the court system.

We look forward to welcoming Chokwe Lumumba (K'69) and David Singleton. Lumumba is a civil rights and criminal lawyer in Mississippi, whose work on behalf of racial justice in his state has brought him national recognition. Singleton is a Harvard Law graduate and the Executive Director and Trial Attorney for the Ohio Justice and Policy Project, an organization that fights for the elimination of racial disparities in the criminal justice system and the promotion of rehabilitation for incarcerated people. His recent successes include a prison reform lawsuit against the State of Illinois.

Lumamba and Singelton's talk will detail the past, present, and future of civil rights litigation and prison reform. The evening will be moderated by the Honorable Alexander Lipsey (K'72).

Again, I know this is short notice, but we'd love to have you attend this lecture event, if you're able. And please feel encouraged to pass this along to others at WMU who might be interested.

Let me know if I can answer any questions about this.

Thank you,

Andrew Tyner
