Ive been capturing this video with QuickTime, but i can only export up to 1920x1080. All I need to do is export at a higher quality in order for it to look OK. I've found some third party solutions, but anything I've found that's capable of exporting video at higher than 1080 also comes with a hefty price tag (> $20). Now don't get me wrong, I'm all for paying for apps, but this is something that I'm going to use very rarely and I just can't justify paying that much for something that I'll only use on occasion.
Does anybody know of a way to screen record on a Mac and export at higher than 1080 quality? Preferably I'd like built in or free solutions, but I would be willing to pay for an app if it were less than $10. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!
Essentially, go to System Preferences > Displays, option-click the Scaled button, then select a new resolution. Your QuickTime movie should record at the new resolution, but remember bigger resolutions take up more graphics power.
Turns out that the highest quality that I could export at using Quicktime was 1920 x 1080, however by saving it instead of exporting, I was able to achieve 2880 width. I then converted the video using ffmpeg with:
But when I try to export the video as an MPEG4, which is the required file format, it won't let me export with anything larger than 352 x 288 aspect ratio. I've tried changing the sequence settings but usually get a pop-up saying that the video doesn't fit the settings. If I keep the settings anyway then the video exceeds the Preview display size. The sequence settings I'm running with currently are:

I understand the confusion. Easy fix to this: When you export your video, rather than selecting MPEG4 for the format, select H.264 for the format. This will give you a .mp4 format, and you can export to 1920x1080 then.
Yep - thank you sir. Been a Flash/Animate developer for decades, but I'm not a video guy. Every so often I get stuck making video. You just saved me from having to stay up all night testing every setting!
I wonder why desktop screen frame size is by default of 1440 * 1024, whereas my desktop and usually what I have observed is that the standard resolution if 1366 *768.
And I have observed that many designers do not take the bottom taskbar, and top navigation bar. (and even the bookmark bar)
The most important part is to make a design which is usable across different screensizes. For that you should be making your design as modular compontens that can be mixed together into fitting any screensize.
In my previous example though, I was specifically trying to get sign-off on a bunch of changes in text size, and no matter how responsive your design is, the prototype may be viewed on multiple screen sizes, which will affect how something like text size is displayed.
I could be wrong, and would gladly be corrected, but from my understanding real, coded web pages should behave responsively as a browser window is resized, they should not scale up or down proportionally. This is similar to what we do when we set our constraints in Figma. So when a browser window is resized, although elements will move around, it should not affect the text size.
I recommend that size because it usually scales up really well, the same sizes look good in a Full HD monitor. However, when I get a design created in frames of 1920x1080, they are already too big for laptop screens, in which case I usually have to resize the elements 80% so that they look good on laptops.
You set your breakpoints in multiples of 320. So the first one will be 640 and that covers tiny tablet devices. Next one from that is 960 which is larger tablets and tiny laptops. Then comes the first major one, 1280. This covers standard size laptops. From there, you move up to 1,600 and 1920. Double 1920 to get 3860 or true 4K displays. You can keep going up from there but that is not very practical.
P.S. Yes, text sizing will not change when you go from 1920 to 1280 or 320. But if you are designing with 4K displays in mind, you might want to set conditionals that increase font size when the audience/viewer screen is larger than 1920. 14/16/18 and 24 can look very small on large displays, etc.
I have bought a Mac mini 2018 (i7 6-core) a week ago. And I am using NEC external monitor with this new Mini. Unfortunately Mac is not supporting the External monitors actual resolution 2560x1440, it gives me only 1920x1080 resolution.
Connected the same NEC monitor with a MacBook Air through a DisplayPort cable and surprisingly I got the supported 2560x1440 resolution on the monitor. see attached snap "Macbook air+Ext display.jpg".
Connected the same NEC monitor with the Mac mini through a DVI-HDMI cable and surprisingly I did not get the supported 2560x1440 resolution on the monitor, rather only 1920x1080 (although I have a eGPU connected to Mac mini). see attached snap "Mac mini+Ext display.jpg".
Your problem is the DVI-HDMI cable. DisplayPort and Mini DisplayPort work fine with 2560x1440. The Mac mini's HDMI port will also support it if you use the correct HDMI cable. Many HDMI cables can't handle more than 1920X1080.
There are many HDMI to DVI adapters that say Dual-link, but that just means they use a dual-link DVI connector, not that they can handle the higher resolutions of dual-link DVI. If they don't specifically say they support the higher resolutions, they are actually single-link DVI.
I would like to set browser size (mainly width) larger than the screen resolution in Windows XP. It looks like there is no easy way of dragging the browser window and resizing it. It resizes to maximum width and height of the actual screen, but no larger.
I need to check and test some webpages on large screens, but I have only a small notebook of my own. Is there a way how to accomplish a larger browser window? Preferrably in Chrome, but any browser in Windows will do.
This is possible. First 'restore' (i.e. unmaximize) the window. Then you can simply adjust the width and height of the browser by using the edges of that particular window as you like. This applies to any browser and application windows including google-chrome.
It seems like this doesn't work for every user. There's a tool called uuspy to do this as suggested in here. I haven't try on how to do this. But, since the ui of uuspy looks not that user-friendly here's quick tip.Open uuspy. There, in the main window, you'll see a search box. Type the first few letters of the current 'title' of the browser there (like 'test - Google Search'), and then click refresh.It'll show a list of windows and child-windows of processes containing the searched partial title in the title-bar.Click on the relevant one (the root/parent is the one most likely.) Then, click GetInfo.There's two text panes there. On the left pane, there's WS_THICKFRAME. unselect it and then click setStyle. That will freeze the resizing. I think you'll have to read the original SO answer to know exactly what needs to be done.
simple! "restore" the window to any size, drag the window so that bottom/left corner is off-screen, then resize using top and right sides to make the window ever bigger. if you need it even bigger, just drag the window again so that bottom/left corner is even further off screen.
After you install Screenspace, select the Chrome window and press Ctrl-Alt-R. The software then shows a virtual window and lets you resize the Chrome window in any direction beyond the virtual window. Click on the green checkmark and the Chrome window will have the same size on your physical screen.
Here's another solution.Under Linux you can freely resize the windows without any hindrance. It also has Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome, and are almost equal in functionality to the Windows versions more or less. So, my suggestion is try this with a Linux flavor such as Ubuntu or Linux Mint. May be you can try this via the LiveCD as well. That way, you don't have to worry about installing a new OS! I can help with that if you need.
if you have a dual moniter setup and set the resolution higher on one, then you can drag the size of the window on the smaller screen to the size of the larger so it will get bigger than the smaller screen -this is haw i do it with windows 7
It's telling you that your Preview render quality will be draft quality based on a 1920x1080 image size. But this doesn't mean your preview display size will be this. That will depend on the screen pixels available.
In the image below I've put it on Best (Full). So it's showing the best render quality based on Full 1920x1080 image size. But the Display size is only 612x344 because my preview area only occupies part of my 1920x1080 monitor screen.
For good understanding: the Quality settings: Draft, Preview, Good and Best sets only the type of scaling algorithm, field handling, field rendering, framerate resampling and use of proxies in the preview and has nothing to do with the resolution of the preview. Changing preview quality from preview to good or best can dramatically slow down the smoothness of the preview, depending on used footage without given a visible better preview. The exact use and meaning I can publish later today (when at home).
The sub menu settings: auto, full, draft, half and quarter sets the resolution used for the preview and has nothing to do with the resolution of the preview display. Using a setting of half or even quarter (or auto) instead of full can dramatically improve the smoothness of the preview and depending on the size of the preview display you won't see a difference.
