I am trying to use the remote on my iPhone 12 to enter my YouTube password on my Apple TV. Normally when I do this a keyboard pops up to allow me to enter the text. Today no keyboard appears. How can I fix this please? I have updated the Apple TV software, and restarted the iPhone 9its running the latest iOS. Does not work with my iPad either.

Ever since the last update, one of the issues I've had on my iPhone X is with the Apple TV remote. I used that remote constantly and never had an issue until this update. Now if I navige away from the remote or another app notifies me while using it, it disconnects from my Apple TV device and won't let me reconnect. It SEES the Apple TV and lets me choose it but cycles through a few times then asks me to choose it again. It'll do this for a few minutes until another iteration of the device pops up (two on the list now) and it lets me choose that one sometimes. Most of the time I have to wait ten minutes for it to clear whatever internal issues it is having. I mean, seriously - HOW DO YOU SCREW UP A REMOTE CONTROL?!?!

I am also having the same issue ever since Apple recently update its iOS in late Feb. 2022. I have an older version of the AppleTV and have been using the Apple Remote app. on an iPhone 8 Pro without any issues until this past weekend. I don't have the original remote controller from the Apple TV so the app was my primary source for navigating.

The most recent iOS update tells me to go to "Control Center" on my iPhone to connect and no longer uses the old remote controller app. Well, since the old app is no longer there after the update, I can't go into the "settings" of the AppleTV to enter the verification code. As a result, my AppleTV has essentially turned into a useless paperweight.

Hi, I gifted my Dad an iphone 11. However, my dad is not so tech savvy. So he asks me to install an app if he wants something. Once app is setup, he can easily use it if he is familiar with it. Can I install or manage apps on my dad's device remotely? I am going through latest itunes and I have added his account on my laptop. However, I only see music on there. I am unable to figure out how to remotely add apps to his phone. Any advice is appreciated.

Hello, unfortunately the short answer is No, you can't remote install apps on iPhone.. You have to use a third party Mobile Device Management (MDM) or host your own MDM.. that's not a very straight forward solution.

With Use Other Devices for Switch Control, you can control your other Apple devices remotely on the same Wi-Fi network without adjusting any switch connections. This enables you to navigate your Mac or Apple TV with the same switch setup that you use to control your iPhone.

Me too. Updated ATV 4K 1st Gen, iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch to new Ones on Monday 9-18-23 and all worked fine for the first 24 hours. Then the ATV remote started going haywire (the new style aluminum remote, I bought a replacement about a year ago). This happened on both the physical remote and the software remotes on both my and my husbands iPhones (also updated to the latest version of iOS). The back button works but the d-pads don't work at all. Picking home makes the cursor zoom across or down a column or a row of icons.

Basically the ATV is uncontrollable now. I have managed to restart the ATV several times to no avail. Same with power cycling the physical remote (down vol and TV buttons held till lights blink on ATV) as well as repairing it with the ASTV (volume up + back button held town till ATV lights flash). The remote has 79% power but I tried plugging it into lightning for charging, agains to no avail.

Solved my issue. After resetting the ATV 4K to factory settings the aluminum Siri Remote no longer worked at all. It would not power cycled or re-pair with the apple TV at all. I was resigned to buying a new remote. In a last ditch attemnpt I did a search on YouTune and saw something about unplugging the ATV from power cable, waiting 10 seconds and replugging in then re-pairing the remote. This worked and all is normal now.

I have a Unifi Dream machine and wired access points. I had previously turned on "multicasting" to improve playing across numerous HomePods and apple TV's. I turned this off, restarted the router and voila, I can see all 5 remotes on my phone. Not sure if it has impacted playing across the house but at least fixed the issue at hand here!

The issue persists and Apple should fix this immediately. And it's not just the remote app that's having issues on/off ethernet, even my (physical) remote is useless now. Only the Home button and the volume work (for me), but NOT the touch surface or the back button. The problem started with TVOS 17 update. And Apple needs to stop suggesting turning the Apple TV on/off, removing the user, or any other hack that works for general issues with the AppleTV remote. We have tried everything and it still doesn't work.

Apple introduced the Switch Control feature with the release of iOS 7 in 2013. The functionality added by Switch Control was originally intended to help users with disabilities control their devices. Anyone can use Switch Control to gain access to another Apple Device as long as both devices are logged into the same Apple account and on the same network. You can use the following technique to remote control an iPhone from any device running iOS or macOS.

Controlling iPhone from other Apple devices is a pretty straightforward process. You might want to remote control iPhone from a PC running Windows or a Linux machine. This can be done though it is more complicated and requires the use of third-party apps for remote iPhone support or browser extensions.

Multiple solutions and remote control iPhone apps are on the market that offer various features and functionality. They all perform the same core functions, but their interfaces, prices, and feature sets differ.

Before you start, you should update Chrome to the latest version and install the Chrome Remote Desktop app for iOS on your iPhone or iPad. Once you have completed these prerequisites you can use the following steps to use this free iPhone remote control app.

Depending on the level of remote access and control you need, the free solution using the Chrome browser may be adequate. If more functionality is required, you should consider a tool like Zoho Assist, TeamViewer or Anydesk.

Every time the Roku, Fire TV or regular television remote gets lost in between the couch cushions or tossed somewhere by a toddler, I'm looking for the individual manufacturer's app to control the TV. But, if you've got a compatible smart TV, like a Roku or Fire TV, or an Apple TV 4K, you can ditch extra apps and simply use your iPhone as your new remote.

When you use your iPhone as a remote control, note that not all televisions will feature all the controls. Depending on the television, you may not be able to turn it on or off, or have access to volume.

But using our iPhones as remote controls has almost rendered our remote boats unnecessary. Though the iPhone's remote control has limited options, I can finally stop keeping track of all the different little remotes from our streaming devices that seem to be the perfect size and shape to slip in between the couch cushions.

You can if you add an Apple TV 4K. Otherwise, you'd have to download a separate app to use your iPhone as a remote, like a universal remote app or the Fire TV or Roku TV. Though the newer Fire TV smart televisions support AirPlay, the Fire TV sticks and cube are not compatible with AirPlay.

If you can't see the remote control option on the Control Center and would like to add it, you can go to Settings, then select Control Center, then add the shortcuts you want to add, including the remote control option.

I have Apple TV 4K, version tvOS 15.5.1. All are on the same network. Software on all devices are updated. My actual Apple TV remote works fine. I see some say just 'rename' the Apple TV - and see if that connects but I'm not able to see where to do that. I spent an hour on the one last night with the apple support going through all of the steps they asked me to....still nothing.

My Mom is using an iPhone XR and she is unaware of some features and application installing. I stay away and if I want to take remote access of her iphone from my PC/Mac using any feature so that I can perform requried actions on my Mom's iphone and can re-connect whenever required with authentication. I am asking about a feature similar to AnyDesk/Teamviewer kind of remote access of myiPhone from any computer/Mac.

Thank you, David. I looks like it is finally sorted out. Not exactly sure what I did and for a while I lost total connection and it was saying that I was running different versions of Room on my Core and my remote. After trying different things, I believe I reinstalled the software and all seems to be functioning as it should. Thank you for your guidance!

Have you checked out If you can't control your TV or receiver with your Apple TV Remote yet? There is a sub-section in that article specifically for "Program your remote for volume" which may be necessary.

Sorry - It was not about the Apple physical-remote but about the Remote application (now found in the control-center of any iphone or ipad. The claim was that you can control the volume with the phone volume buttons and that does not work (even when the HDMI port selected is a CEC port).
