I have been unable to install rabbitmq. After intall the erl_crash.dump showing an error message of "Failed to create cookie file"

and running rabbitmqctl status in the command line shows :

Status of node rabbit@D809424 ...
Error: unable to connect to node rabbit@D809424: nodedown
DIAGNOSTICS
===========
attempted to contact: [rabbit@D809424]
rabbit@D809424:
  * connected to epmd (port 4369) on D809424
  * epmd reports: node 'rabbit' not running at all
                  other nodes on D809424: ['RabbitMQ']
  * suggestion: start the node
current node details:
- node name: 'rabbitmq-cli-3532@D809424'
- home dir: H:\
- cookie hash: Q8YJVqAjdcu4e9E2SlaY+A==

Originally H: was mapped to a network drive and the cookie did not get created, however I re mapped the H: to a local path and then the cookie got created (it created 2 identical cookie files, one in %systemroot% and the other in the mapped drive but the error message still says "Failed to create cookie file" !!!!

The Home environment variables are :

HOMEDRIVE=H:
HOMEPATH=\

and H:\ is mapped to C:\Users\%username%

Any help greatly appreciated.

rabbitmqctl does not complain about creating the cookie file, though. Take a look at the 3rd
section on http://www.rabbitmq.com/windows-quirks.html and try reinstalling now that the drive is re-mapped?

Hi Michael

Thanks for your reply.

Although rabbitmqctl does not complain about creating the cookie file, it is showing exactly the same error it did before I remapped the drive and the cookie file was not getting created.

I have tried reinstalling a few times now since remapping and each time it now creates the cookie but I still get the same error.

Even though I have admin  rights on my machine I think it is a permission problem somewhere, but it is impossible to find out what as the only error I'm getting is about the cookie not getting created when it is!

Any further help greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Note that you can create the cookie file yourself.
