Hello,

I have two RabbitMQ servers in a cluster running version 3.7.11 on Windows Server.
If I understand correctly, I cannot perform a Rolling (in‑place) Upgrade to the latest version?

Could you please confirm the actions to take:

  • Export configuration to .json
  • Stop the RabbitMQ service on the first server
  • Upgrade Erlang
  • Install RabbitMQ
  • Start the service
  • Enable the feature flags
  • Enable the plugins
  • Import the .json configuration file
  • Repeat the same operation on the second server

Hi,

It is not impossible to upgrade in-place. You do need a full cluster stop when going from 3.7.x to 3.8.x but after that it can be done in a rolling fashion. That being said it would probably be faster to do a blue-green upgrade: https://www.rabbitmq.com/docs/blue-green-upgrade

I forgot to mentioned that two-node clusters are "highly recommended against": https://www.rabbitmq.com/docs/clustering#node-count
