Topics concerning RabbitMQ and VPN have come up a number of times, and AFAICR the advice was to turn off VPN. However, that doesn't work for my use case. When I work from home, development code needs to run on my local machine, which is a MacBookPro. The locally-running development code needs to access locally-running RabbitMQ and MySQL servers, while at the same time accessing resources that are only available through the VPN. MySQL performs just fine in this configuration, but RabbitMQ experiences all softs of problems, such as unacceptable slow-downs. Is there no hope for this use case? Many thanks.

You are making a broad generalization
based on a single data point.

We do not have access to your VPN and "unacceptable slowdowns" is not specific
enough to tell anything.

So while we understand your frustration,
the only way to suggest anything is to profile
to see what takes time.

A good place to start would be capturing a session with Wireshark, for which we now have a brief doc guide on rabbitmq.com.
