Metric to account how many messages expired due to TTL

We want to set queue level TTL and then audit how many messages expired/removed from the queue due to TTL setting (per day, per week, etc). Is there a way to hit the api and get such information? Alternatively, we can set up DLQ but then the messages will accumulate there which we don't want to do.
