Hi,

I need to install RabbitMQ on a debian 9.5 server. Sources are updated. The command apt-get install rabbitmq-server installed erlang but failed about rabbitmq itself. I obtained the message:

Curiously, /var/lib/rabbitmq have in fact been created.
The command rabbitmqctl status gaves

I have made a lot a search on internet without any success and I would be very gratefull for help. I guess it's an issue about some kind of permission (i did this as root)...

See https://rabbitmq.com/install-debian.html. Your distribution provides Erlang 19.2 while RabbitMQ 3.7.7 requires 19.3.6.4 or a later version. The above guide covers that problem as well.

And consider providing server logs in the future.

Thank's a lot, it's very kind of you. I tried to do my best to give the more relevant information... I'll do better next time.

Thank's again.

No worries. Our Debian packages of Erlang/OTP are a recent development and so the guide linked to above had a pretty significant
revision recently.

Let us know what repos you settle on for both Erlang and RabbitMQ, and how straightforward was the guide to follow. We'd be very thankful for
any feedback on that guide.

Cheers.

I read carefully those instructions and it seemed clear to me but things turned very bad...

I wanted to install on Bintray. When I did "apt-key add -", I had no response from my server. So I ignored it and however installed stretch/erlang 21.x and stretch/rabbitmq, following instructions, and I wasn't surprised when I had a warning about non authenticated repositories.

And just after installing rabbitmq, I got:
"

Job for rabbitmq-server.service canceled.

Connection to (myIP) closed by remote host.

Connection to (myIP) closed.

"

my ssh session was then closed.

Now, I can't connect to my server and when I go on my website, I get a window "ZYXEL configuration interface" !!

So, It's seems clear that I've been pirated...

It's not too severe to me because I was just installing my site and I'm going to reset.

Sorry, there is no "Zyxel configuration interface". I made a mistake when I configured some DNS and it's a coincidence if I realize that just after rabbitmq crash install. So, it's probably not some kind of piracy.
Nevertheless, my server is now very unstable (I can sometime connect but thing are everything except normal).

C'est un cauchemar... I have lost many hours with that and it doesn't work.

I reinstalled my server with another OS, Ubuntu Xenial, I follow the lines (this time, no problem with keys) but I obtained the same kind of conclusion. It's again very difficult to connect to my server and, when I can, I see this:

Welcome to Ubuntu 16.04.5 LTS (GNU/Linux 2.6.32-openvz-042stab127.2-amd64 x86_64)

It seems that some process takes all ressources.
